I have to agree. Lived there for 2.5 years and so glad to be away from that place. Neighborhoods are pretty segregated with the blacks living on the west side around the hospital and the whites on the east side of the town where home values are double for the same quality and size homes. If you don’t work at the hospital or one of the pharmaceutical firms in town you aren’t making any money and are struggling to make ends meet. Public schools suck all around Pitt County with the only decent performing schools are located on the white side of town. Town is located in the middle of nowhere. There are no densely populated towns within 30 miles in any direction of this town which means there isn’t much to do here. They are only building new housing developments in the nicer parts of town instead of trying to improve the poorer neighborhoods around the hospital and outskirts of town. Easy to see why most ECU students leave this town the second they graduate.
