Review of Delta, Colorado

Too much to do more like it
Star Rating - 2/23/2022
35 year resident....While I find the reviews constructive, I'm a bit confused and rumoured by the, "nothing to do" crowd.
Me thinks some would go to New York City, never leave their hotel, then return home saying the same thing....so let me share a few things to do if your one of us who don't think of going to a superstore as "something to do", but what we do to get supplies for "doing things.
The following are just some of what can be done in one day and be home by the evening news.
On the edge of town is a state park with picnic facilities, swim beach, boat ramp (waterskiing/wakeboarding, canoeing, SUP 'ing, or just relaxing while taking in views of the West Elk range to the east, San Juans to the south.
Within town is a 265 acre park with a rec center to rival any town of this size, 7 miles of walking or single track biking, an 1800's trading post recreation living history museum, 70 acre fishing/paddleboard lake, dog park, 18 hole disc golf course, and a fully covered picnic shelter that can accomodate hundreds.
On the north side of town at the base of Grand Mesa lies Devils Thumb golf course, an 18 hole desert style golf course surrounded with unobstructed mountain vistas, open year round, 2022 Avid Golfer award winner, named #2 best value in all of Colorado,
20 minutes to the east gives access to the Gunnison river at the entrance to the Gold Medal trout fishery.
North of Delta up on the Grand Mesa, the worlds largest flat top mountain, more great trout streams and lakes, in winter downhill and cross country skiing, in autumn excellent big game hunting.
Don't forget the area wineries with patios offering expansive views, the many welcoming special interest groups from books to photography, to astronomy, and more. I won't go on 'cos there's not much to do unless you want to spend all your free time like you're on vacation.
...maybe watch that famous sweet corn grow
