A Clean, Well-Lighted Place [EH]

I bought a house in Clearlake in 2018. I have been fixing it for now, mostly clearing and landscaping the yard to my satisfaction. I was able to buy it easily due to the fact that Lake County has some great opportunities for home ownership. Back on the topic of the Clearlake way of life: if you mind your own business, the locals will respect you. That is what I've been doing. I have left the house alone for weeks, more than once (I have security cameras) and when I come back everything is as good as I left it. I am very impressed with the way the neighborhood is. I only have neighbors in front of the street and on one side of the house. They are all different from each other. No one has ever tried to trespass when I am not there. I have a super cranky neighbor who wants the passing cars to slow down. I understand him, he has two grade schoolers. Generally speaking, all my neighbors try to maintain their homes in good condition. I used to live in Santa Cruz and I don't miss the bumper to bumper life, nor the mortgage. I have to say that I am in my fifties and I am very good at entertaining myself with sewing and crafts. I have a shed that is now converted into a sewing studio ??. If you have more energy to burn, well, get connected with the community activities. These activities are posted in the local newspaper. I will admit that I was very concerned about moving to Clearlake sixteen months ago. The roads make it looks a lot worse. And some people here do seem rough, but most of them wear their hearts on their sleeve. But after buying the home, facing new neighbors and dealing with the City Hall personnel, my original fear is changing to excitement. I can finally dream about my rose garden and live in this beautiful rural place, Clearlake.
