Review of Jamul, California

Rural Living
Star Rating - 8/4/2009
Jamul is a large unincorporated community southeast of San Diego in the hills. There is a lot of land and space between neighbors. Most parcels of land involve acres rather than square feet. The Cleveland National Forest defines part of the perimeter for the sub community of Deer Horn Valley. We are only 35 miles from downtown San Diego, but the elevation at 2700' above sea level allows us to experience all four seasons, with many many days of sunshine. The down side to living here are the wild fires, particularly when the Santa Ana winds are blowing. We were burnt out two years ago in the wild fires started by illegal aliens having breakfast after crossing the border on foot. The border is only miles away. Seeing the Border Patrol is a staple here. Rural living means your water comes from a well on your property, you haul your trash to the dump and you drive miles to the nearest gas station. It takes planning and preparedness, but the rewards are privacy and spectacular natural beauty just outside your door.
