You'll find Missouri a great place to live. You'll even find some very good Missouri wines. Cost of living is reasonable, and people are friendly. St. Louis is a major medical center (for treatment and research). Public schools in suburban areas are highly rated and there is a very large selection of private and parochial schools. Both the Catholic and Lutheran faiths have widespread elementary and high schools (with affordable tuition). Take a look at St. Charles County (northwest) or Jefferson County (southwest). Missouri (unlike neighboring Illinois) is in relatively good shape financially and has a history of stable fiscally responsible management. Real estate is stable and compared to CA ... you'll be in shock at how much house you can buy. I lived in the San Fernando Valley many years ago.
