Review of Tifton, Georgia

Moved to Tifton for college for several years.
Star Rating - 10/28/2007
I lived in Tifton, Georgia for three years. I worked several different jobs while attending college. If you are looking for a city to stay while in college, then I would say it's okay. The economy is declining, they have lost three major businesses in just the last year. The majority of jobs available are entry-level jobs, paying around $8.00 per hour or less.

Crime is very high, even if the police department ignores it. On average there is 20-25 burglaries and 4 robberies per month, in a town with a population of only 16,000 or so. If you live south of Hwy 82 you can expect to encounter numerous drug abusers and abandoned houses. A majority of the "Tifton-ites" refuse to drive through that part of town.

The school system is slowly becoming a joke. They call the town the "Reading Capital of the World." Which is funny because their library is located inside an old walmart, with no book stores nearby. There is also only three decent places to eat and dine/or drink.

The city recently was graced with the presence of James Brooks, supposed government consultant. Brooks' experience stems from being the Chief of Police in Macon, where he was fired for DUI in his patrol car. Brooks' ideas sickened numerous city employees.

Overall I would reccommend staying away from any long term stay in Tifton. There is several other towns to stay and attend college, such as Kennesaw, Valdosta, Augusta, and Carrollton.
