it was a forced treaty that the white man has done
Star Rating - 11/11/2007
first off, im so sick of white people trying to explain why mexicans should not feel at home in a state that belonged to mexico in the first place. and yes there was that treaty, but it was a treaty that mexico was forced into. what else were we supposed to do. cali and alot of the southwest was gangstered from us from the mexican/american war. and that war was started purposely in order to secure more land for the white man. white america loves doing things like that in order to gain something from it. hey, iraq sounds kind of similiar/ oil rich country? and oh, im so sick of hearing prejudice italians talk crap about latinos. yeah, i lived up east and believe me their are tons or really prejudiced italians who hate hispanics. so for this guy, know your history, becsause spain was apart of the roman empire for like a thousand years. so you have alot of italians with spanish blood. know your history and stop being so prejudiced.

The Los Angeles Mexican-American author who wrote "It was a forced treaty that the white man has done" on this site has unquestionably been brainwashed with the racist Chicano Power propaganda of the 1960s. The United States government compensated Mexico with 12 million dollars for the territory in the same way France was paid for the Louisiana Purchase. The author's bitter rhetoric is typical of California Latinos (i.e Mexicans) and is used as an excuse for their inability to successfully climb the social and economic ladder like all the other immigrant groups. To do so they feel will force them to lose their Mexican identity. By the way, I am a second generation east coast Italian-American who has a great respect for other hard working Hispanics like Cubans, Argentinians, and even Puerto Ricans. These Latinos are far more driven to succeed in this country than Mexicans. And, for the historical record, the author speaks about Spaniards and Mexicans in the same breath. If he knew his history the would know that a real Spaniard is a white/Caucasian European. Mexicans, however, are not Spanish. They are a melting of white European Spanish blood with Native American Indian blood. Compare the face of a Spaniard and a Mexican, regardless of skin color, and it is patently clear that Mexicans are indeed Indian in appearance. The only thing Spanish about them is the language they speak. The fact that I speak English me ethnically British. In fact, the real Spaniards I've met despise it when Mexicans try to call themselves Spanish. Perhaps the Mexican author of the article at hand should forget all that Chicano Power brainwashing and learn a lesson from the other successful immigrant groups who've figured out how to be successful here in Los Angeles.

For those who obviously do not know their history and persist in exaggerating Mexico's "original" ownership of California...let me set the record straight. Mexico "had" Alta California for about twenty years, only, after Mexico won independence from Spain until the U.S. took it over. Mexico did nothing with California for those twenty years; in fact, Mexico downgraded California's status to that of a territory. There were only a few hundred "Mexicans" in California, outnumbered by aboriginals. Mexico in 1848 had not much more "ownership" of California than it does of the Moon today. My family lived in a duplex above what is now Dodger Stadium in the early 1950's. When a Mexican-American family moved in (the father was an old fashioned traffic cop downtown, who used to direct traffic using white gloved hand signals as he stood in the middle of an intersection)....when they moved in, the entire neighborhood (now perhaps 100% Hispanic) thought of them as exotic.
