Review of Austin, Texas

Austin is not that great!
Star Rating - 11/4/2008
I've lived in PA, NY and NM. I can't wait to get out of Austin. The drivers are so rude, they ride up your bumper even when there's no traffic and they cut you off all the time for no reason. There is absolutely NOTHING to do here unless you like to drink and go to bars downtown. The museums are horrible for such a large town. The only good museum is the History of Texas mus, if you care enough about Texas to walk through a 3 story museum all about them. You'd think there would be a little more cultured down here, but it's all about Texas. The people are relatively nice, but have a lot of money and are stuck up. The downtown traffice sucks when they close a majority of the streets off because of a race, which is EVERY weekend! And the government here stinks too. They keep building huge, expensive homes and shopping centers, while the lower and middle classes have nothing. Everyone drives a huge truck or SUV, even the rich women who don't know how to drive them so don't be tricked into thinking Austin is a "green" city. It's far from it. Oh, and the heat is horrendous in the summer!! Right now, it's Nov. 4th and it's 82 degrees. Hot, hot, hot...no seasons at all. I can't wait to move, I'm so bored. There's no hiking, camping or anything unless you like to shop and drink.

Hi, I just read your view about Austin...while I have never lived there and am considering a place to move after being in very crime ridden Albuquerque for 5 years, I am a bit confused...you say that everyone drives a huge truck or SUV and are rude drivers...hmm, how long did you live in NM?

You obviously lived in the wrong part of Austin. ALL CITIES have stuck up rich people. I live in Far South Austin and my neighbors and I are very down to earth and friendly and not stuck up...a little pretentious maybe, but not nearly as bad as the people that I've met in my travels from the northeast (read this as NY, NJ, and PA)As for the no camping or hiking comment... did you ever leave you house? The city is FULL of hike and bike trails. The Barton Creek Greenbelt alone has more greenspace than anything I ever found in the northeast cities put together. Canyon Lake, and the Colorado River lakes (Lake Travis, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ etc.)are all within an hour's drive and are great for camping. There is so much nature and FUN stuff to do close by that I've lived here for 15 years and still haven't explored all the great camping areas close by. I must say Thank You though for your negative review because hopefully it will keep more people from moving here and ruining Austin by trying to change it into a version of their own town. You're right about 1 thing and one thing only. The drivers in Austin. But, you have to understand, Austin is a College Town. Young college kids drive like idiots. Just do what I do, pray for them to wreck. (which they will, they always do.)Just hope it isn't into your car. lol

Hello, i thought i would drop a line on your review. You are obviously a very unhappy person and are taking out your frustrations on Austin. TRAFFIC>>>The traffic is very slow and very safe from what i have seen. Especially coming from Las Vegas. NOTHING TO DO>>>Are you kidding me, Hiking, Biking, Camping, Swimming, Boating, Dancing, Live Music do i need to go on ? PEOPLE>>> You claim are nice, but have a piece of money and are stuck up, a little jealous are we ? Get over it. DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC>>>Find me on city of 500k plus that downtown traffic does not stink. What part of NY are you from anyway. lol. BUILDING EVERYWHERE. Creates jobs, stimulates economy and brings a new vibe to old areas. HUGE TRUCKS. Let me guess, you drive Hyundai garbage that you have to make two trips to bring your grocery's home. This is Texas with cattle and horses that require trailers which require big vehicles to pull them. All the construction requires trucks as well. let me guess you think it should all be done out of a civic. HOT>>>Beats the hell out of shoveling snow. Nov 4th 80 degrees and you are unhappy. Just stop and listen to yourself. BORED>>>I bet you are. Sometimes we look and can not see for the fog of anger we have created for ourselves. Good Luck
