Quick response to what was posted. I would say her post is inaccurate except for the part about taxes. People are friendlier and more laid back than the people up north and down in fl... maybe she just had those views about the locals because she comes from further south. Many nice restaurants I frequent are out towards Prospect on the River Road area, not just near Bardstown road (my advice would be to do a little more exploring). Restaurants are BY FAR a strong point of Louisville: the number of nice restaurants here per capita is hard to beat (by nice I mean good food not necessarily overpriced). Schools here are not all great, but there are still some good ones for students who excel (e.g. three students from my graduating class went to Harvard). Oldham County which is just a little further west is a good district for schools. As far as taxes goes, she is right. A lot of our tax money leaves the city and goes to the state (we dole out more than we receive). I suppose that is to be expected due to the city's large size compared to the state although local politicians are trying to reverse this. As far as the Derby thing goes I'm not sure what she is basing her comment on. Derby tickets are expensive because of DEMAND (face value around $70 or so for a cheap bleacher seat by the starting gate) and grandstand seats are very expensive ($100s to $1000s)... that's just the market making a price high not greedy citizens. Ticket holders can't force anyone to buy at a steep price, and there is always the infield for around $40.

One final thing about me, I grew up a Louisvillian and consider myself a Kentuckian, but it is worth noting that many (probably most) Kentuckians outside of Louisville look upon Louisvillians with contempt.
