You live in Hiram. How does this compare to Atlanta? Those are two different cities. You're in Atlanta, not NY or in the north, where there are named areas for different cultures (China town, Little Italy, Jamaicans, etc).

Crime is EVERYWHERE, not one place is better than the other when it comes to crime.

I just don't understand why people come here and complain so much.

I'm from Atlanta and have never dealt with the issues that you've faced for your family. I don't think that the problem was Atlanta, I just think that you hit a hard time in your life. Instead of blaming others, sit down with your wife and family and try to figure out how to get out of debt.

Why not called the United Way of Atlanta or the Salvation Army for assistance. You may not want it, but apply for unemployment untiil you get back on your feet. Talk to your career counselor with the Georgia DOL and find out what other opportunities are out there for your family. Go to the Consumer Credit Counseling individuals (google the one in Atlanta) to find out how to get your family back on track financially and economically FOR FREE!! Take a lesser paying job until something else comes along and use that money to move back to MN. Also, if you moved here for a job, then try having that accountind department (with your former employer) pay off some of those relocation costs. They should've at least offered a severance package.

Stop whining and take charge.

OMG--I agree totally!!

With the whole driving thing, I just feel like to each its own. I hear that all the time that people from Atlanta can't drive and its ridiculous. I worked in an office with 80 individuals and 45 were from NY or Jamaica and they all had road rage. They'd holler out their windows (rude and loud gestures), they'd get right on one's bumpers and had major anger issues. They thought they owned the highway and rarely signaled. I'd say that issues with driving is a worldwide problem, not only for "Southerners".

If you work downtown and live in Hampton, I don't know why you ever thought that you'd have a quicker commute. If I'm not mistaken you're south and you have to past Tara Blvd (which is one of the most CONGESTED) highways/ streets in Georgia.

You should take the express bus or ride the CCT? The CCT takes you to Marta and you would get on at the Airport train station, you get downtown on the train in like 20 minutes.

Well I have to say that you live in Riverdale..LOLLL...not really in Atlanta. Thats a city OUTSIDE of Atlanta. And if someone asks you to pay that much for a rental home in Riverdale, you got played!!! Riverdale is SOUTH of the city, I've found rental homes in that area for $800 for three bedrooms, I don't know where you were looking, but your resources are outdated. I'd pay that much living in Atlantic Statio or closer to downtown. And people move FAR away from the city and wonder why they have a bad commute, its crazy! No, the prices in the city are not the most affordable, but why live somewhere where there is no public transportation so you can at park and catch one of the express buses or bus or train system. I've caught the bus and rail system for YEARS. I drive to the station and park and get on the bus because I work right downtown, I've NEVER had issues and I NEVER get caught in traffic. I plan ahead.

Yes, Atlanta is becoming a bit congested. We have SOOOO many people coming here from all over the world (daily) that its ridiculous. And most of them make the most of their relocation, but alot of them start complaining as soon as they get here.

When I go north, particularly NY, I don't complain about how filthy the city is or how expensive the cost of living is or how VERYYYYYYY rude, potty mouth, and LOUD some of these individuals are. I keep it moving because this IS their city and this is what THEY do. Why would I complain???

Its like if you don't like it, MOVE--stop bashing places because they don't cater to your every needs, sometimes its not the place, sometimes its you?

I agree as well and I'm a woman. I just feel like the "nightlife" scene is ridiculous and the men to me aren't approachable or easy to talk to, just seems like they'd enjoy staying at home or reading a book or something than going out on dates.

I recently went to Charlotte to visit and find out if this is a place where I would like to live. We did the "Queen City" tour and got a feel of the history of Charlotte and went to a ton of restaraunts, shopping malls, etc. and what I found is that (and this is MY opinion) that it wasn't welcoming. Charlotte has ALOT of growing up to do in terms of being labeled as a diverse and "booming" city. I did see alot of construction which could mean more jobs and a better economy, I also noticed that there aren't many restaraunts and/or clubs or just plain out recreation for different races and cultures. Yes, there is racism everywhere so I don't understand why people are getting so upset about Charlotte being called a racist city, IT IS. I noticed this from how my friend and I were starred down when walking into businesses as well as hotels and restaraunts. I mean to stay on "Queen Blvd" you have to do like three 90 degree angles to stay on that street because the guy who designed it that way didn't want certain "people" on that street (check your history)! In some form of fashion, EVERY CITY is.

And the Bank of America stadium sits right in the middle of downtown Charlotte which is like asking for congestion and there isn't much to see or much that grabs your eye. Its really boring to me.

But, I think for minorities, you probably should try Raleigh if you MUST relocate to North Carolina.
