Portland, OR | 4 Review(s)

I have lived in many places, including Europe. But when I came to Portland in 1987 I knew I was home. I love the people, the size of the city, and back then the prices of real estate.

Ive been caring for my ill mother since 2003 in Denver, Colorado and have missed Portland terribly. I am ready to come home now.

I love dogs, and have a wonderful chihuahua named Rudy. Emma is no longer with us (dachsund). I have fostered for the Portland Humane Society and the Multnomah Animal Shelters.

I became an athlete while in Portland until my neck was broken in 1993. Arm was paralyzed for two years. Havn't managed to get back into it though I sure could use it.

I love Portland's open mindedness and outspokeness. And its community. Large cities make distant people.

I received my college degree from Marylhurst University, BA in Communications.

I do get the winter depresseion from so much gray/rain. But it sure is good for my skin---being a redhead who spent many years on the California Beaches and as a child on the shores of Spain, Im sure as I get older I will develop age spots and perhaps skin cancer (as my father did). My father died in Oregon. I have two brothers in Portland. They are so much better than the female half of my family which lives in Denver.

Denver is like LA was in the 1970's and is conservative like Texas.

I miss microbrews and Starbucks.

OH MY GOD, YOU TWO ARE PERFECT FOR PORTLAND. I JUST GOT BACK FROM TOLEDO, OHIO YESTERDAY, THINKING I COULD FIND A HOUSE I COULD AFFORD WITH MY $30,000-----WELL, IVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. WHEN THESE PEOPLE SAY PORTLAND "IS REELING" FROM ECONOMIC DOWNTURN, THEY HAVE NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT BY COMPARISON TO DETROIT. THEY ARE EVEN TALKING ABOUT RAIZING AREAS BECAUSE OF THE 100'S AND 100'S OF BOARDED UP DELAPITATING HOUSES. TOLEDO IS THE SAME WAY. I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I SAW. IT WAS QUITE SAD.

ANYWAY, YOU WILL FIT RIGHT IN IN PORTLAND. GET YOURSELF SOME WOOL SOCKS AND SOME BIRKENSTOCKS, WALK IN THE RAIN, GET POLITICALLY ACTIVE AND WALK THROUGH THE STREETS, YOU WILL LOVE IT THERE. YOU WILL NEED TO DRINK MORE COFFEE BECAUSE THE GRAY/RAIN WILL WANT TO PUT YOU INTO HYBERNATION.

WELCOME

STAY OUT OF SPRINGFIELD IF YOU ARE LIBERAL. CANBY TOO. EUGENE IS COOL, ITS A COLLEGE TOWN. UNFORTUNATELY, THE FEW PARTS OF PORTLAND THAT ARE "HIPPY LIKE" HAVE BEEN OVER TAKEN BY YUPPIES, AND THEY OPEN THESE STUPID USELESS STORES THAT SELL STUFFED DOLLS, BARS OF SOAP, CANDLES, WICKER BASKETS WITH GOOFY STUFF IN THEM. USELESS STUFF REALLY. IT SEEMS THAT THE RICH HUSBANDS LET THEIR BORED WIVE'S OPEN STORES LIKE THESE TO HAVE SOMETHING TO DO. ITS JUST TOO BAD THEY SQUASH OUT THE MOST UNIQUE PARTS OF TOWN--THE OLD HIPPIES. YES, THEY ACTUALLY STILL EXIST IN PORTLAND!!! BEING AN OLD HIPPY MYSELF I LOVE SEEING THESE YOUNG KIDS. MISS THEM.

IM STUCK IN DENVER (SINCE 2003) AND MISS IT TERRIBLY. I'LL EVEN BUY A MANUFACTURED HOME JUST TO COME BACK HOME. HAD TO SELL MY $39k AFTER 16 YRS IT SOLD FOR $300,000. DIDN'T WANT TO SELL,BUT WAS IN A PINCH.

Religion - 3/26/2010
I saw your list of religions for Portland. Why didn't you mention Wiccan? It is alive and viable, especially in Portland. We are a wonderful group of loving people. There are many of us, especially in PDX.

Blessed Be,
