12/18/2020I lived here for a couple of years and am seriously thinking of moving back to retire. Yes Lynchburg is a “Christian” town and LU does hold sway over a lot of the city, but a vast majority of the people are seriously nice. I’m atheist, and not in the closet about it. I have a FSM symbol on my car - the atheist group LASH are a bunch of great people who are fun to be with. With Falwell’s disgrace, I think there is a good chance LU will go back to being an evangelical college instead of the right wing Republican college that it turned into. I know more than a couple gay people who live here and they love it. The downtown is awesome and still affordable, the prices are going up. There are excellent wooded walking trails that you cannot believe you are in the middle of the city.
