5/30/2012parentBeen in this School with my kids for over 12yrs. Every school has it ups & downs but I have to say this school has been over all a great School!! The things that my kids home and learn is all from this school. Also If I had a ask for any one person to watch over these kids in school it would be Mr. Rodgers!! He has been there for over 20 yrs and knows the school in & out. Great person !!
5/29/2012parentUnfortunate many of their staff members in the office are extremely difficult to work with. No transparency... agrees with previous review by other parents: "no parent involvement in the process and no talks toward solutions" Also watch out for the security guard "Roger' - not friendly at all.
4/25/2012parentDon't be fooled by these reviews. They are seriously out of date. Principal Harrigan is long gone, the middle school transition was a disaster and the new principal is in over his head. Had to pull my children out, and we were not alone. There are some bright spots, such as the wonderful lower school teachers and the excellent security team (Mr. Rodgers is the best). The upper grades leave much to be desired. If you have options, you should carefully consider them.
2/1/2012otherI graduated from PS 229 in 1959, so if you do the math, you'll know that I am now a 63 year old lawyer who is very grateful for the education I obtained there. It enabled me to go on to Brooklyn Tech and then Queens College, Stony Brook University and then University of Miami Law School. I am a former teacher, so I know how challenging it is to try to educate today's kids who are so radically different from how we were back then. Bravo for being a 9 out of 10 school despite all the obstacles. I'll give you 5 stars for still going strong after all these years. I remember all of my teachers and how dedicated they were even though they earned practically nothing at the time. Keep up the good work. Education is everything.
10/6/2010parenti love this because here teacher teach so well that my child is able to understand correctly
9/21/2010parentP.S. 229 is the epitome of what a public school should be. Its is run under the extraordinary leadership of Robert Zappulla and staffed with teachers who are nothing short of excellent. The education that the children receive is above and beyond what I expected. I am very fortunate that my children are enrolled in such a fine institution.
9/23/2009parentI am very happy with the education my son is receiving. He is happy! The expanded facility is beautiful. And last, but certainly not least the security is top notch. Mr. Rodgers deserves an award!
3/29/2009parentI love this schoo....This is the best school..I am so happy i live next to the school. My child as got the best support from this school i am happy i put my child in that school for all her years and i hope she picks the best thing and go to the extention of ps229 next year.....Thank you ps229 for all your help!
11/25/2008parentP.S. 229 is the best school in the neighborhood. My children are getting a wonderful education.
11/4/2008parentI agree the parent coordinator is not very helpful, borderline rude. And, yes some of the teachers can be a little harsh, but most of the teachers are great.
11/3/2008parentIt's unfortunate that the parent teacher coordinator is extremely difficult to work with. Also, I've noticed some harsh tones coming from the teachers there.
6/7/2008parentvery educated school and well-behaved students. there may be some trouble once in a while. but great teaching there.
2/11/2008otherThis school is the best school you can ever send your child too. I just graduated last year from the 5th grade. The teacher's are so nice. The PTA does such great things for the school, including a Halloween Party, a dance a BBG for the graduating 5th grade class, a talent show, and many other things. The school also offers a band and orchastra taought by a really nice teacher. I have not one bad thing to say about this school, you get a great education and the people are so nice there. I am upset, though, that I had to leave this wonderful school, but, in about two years, there will be a Junior High. Sign your kids up now and you can have three extra years to enjoy this great school! I wish I was able too. Go to P.S. 229!
11/1/2007parentHigh standards. They need more music programs. Learning instruments and a school chior!
3/21/2007parentThis school though academically good, has issues with dealing with parents. The school disicplines without any parent involvement in the process and no talks torward solutions.
5/10/2006parentGreat school! One of the smallest schools in NYC with great teachers.
5/27/2005studentit's a good school, about 9/11 of the kids in my house went/going to that school.
9/26/2004former studentI'm not actually a parent, in fact I'm an alumnus of PS 229, now attending the University of Maryland. I was a participant in the Delta program, which helped me vastly when the time came for junior high, and later, for high school. I am so pleased to learn that the school is still going strong.
5/16/2004parentBoth my children have graduated from this adorable elementary school. It is considered the 'country club' of public elementary schools in the area. It has a strong PTA. The principal is an assett.
