4/27/2012parentIf I could give higher than a 5 Star rating for this school, I would. I have had two kids go through Buckley, each one very different, and in each case the school gave them an absolutely superior education, tailoring it to their individual strengths and bringing out their potential in such amazing ways. The curriculum is challenging and more advanced than even some private schools in our area. Smart Boards are evident in every room, with teachers that know how to integrate them into the curriculum. In fact, technology is a major differentiator for this school. They have a lap top program in the upper school and now an IPad program as well. But best of all, the teachers and staff, as well as the 6 Senior Administrators are top flight in all respects. They have just renovated their entire lower school and many common areas to be state of the art. The feeling at Buckley is just different. The kids think learning is cool, the teachers are great and knock themselves out for every child, and the whole place is about a combination of caring and challenging. One of the best decisions I made as a parent.
2/20/2012parentBuckley was nothing short of disappointing for our family. After having put both of our children in the school, we soon realized that it simply was not on par with other leading independent schools on Long Island. While the main building is quaint and charming, it is not nearly as technologically advanced or as progressive as the school and classes that our children are in now. The use of computers, Smart Boards, radiant floor heating, and high-res projection screens for class lessons are simply not as prevalent at Buckley. Buckley gives the illusion of having the most caring administration, and the most accredited teachers neither is the case in reality. The Administration consists of 3 people, and we were quickly reminded that the school is a business and all about the bottom dollar. They really don t care about the students and their advancement. Assistant Teachers don t even need a Master s degree they can be a stay-at-home mom. This school is laughable if I m going to pay a small fortune in tuition, I want it to be where our children can get so much more out of the teachers, staff, classrooms, and curriculum.
2/8/2011parentBuckley is a nurturing environment for my children that has become a home away from home. We have been there for 8 years. The faculty is top notch, incredibly smart and very caring. Children are encouraged to speak in front of their peers, ask questions and share their ideas. The curriculum is truly laid out with a global vision, making the students flourish into citizens of the world. The science program is amazing. I often am amazed to see what my children are learning and how eloquently they can explain it all. This is the only place on the North Shore of Island to send your children.
2/8/2011parentBuckley is a wonderful independent school and was the best choice for our son. We are so pleased with the academic rigor, the resources, and the teachers. The teachers are dedicated, very accessible and in constant communication with the parents. The students develop a poise and presence very early that serves them well beyond Buckley. They are kind, self-aware and develop a world view at a young age. I am sure that he is on track to be accepted to best High Schools (Long Island and elsewhere) and feel confident that he will get in wherever he applies. We looked at other schools and were invited to attend. I am glad that we chose Buckley. I recommend it to parents/students who are looking for a nurturing environment that values academic achievement, excellent teachers and strong leadership.
11/30/2010parentSending our son to Buckley was simply the best possible choice we could have made. After 9 fabulous years (he started in kindergarten) at Buckley, he now attends a top-of-the-line prep school in Manhattan. With its hybrid approach of providing rigorous academics within a nurturing environment, Buckley prepared him in all possible ways to make a rather seamless transition to his top-flight high school: academic, emotional and social. Buckley truly develops the whole child to achieve his/her full potential. A five-star rating is almost too low!
11/23/2009parentAs a parent, I believe that Buckley has the finest combination of academics, enriched curriculum, athletics, music, the arts etc. and a supportive environment of any school in the area. It shows in the results...not only where the students go to HS but also years later in college. I have a graduate, and another child still at the school. The teachers have been life-changing for my children. They model all the values you want for your kids. One said,'I love your children as if they were my own.' It was true. The leadership of the school is first rate. The only minus: They have waiting lists, and you need to apply early.
9/25/2009otherPros: K- 8th grade. Academic's are excellent, especially in the sciences. Nurturing environment. Small class size, great traditions and good moral values upheld. Outstanding committed teachers (under compensated). Campus is large, yet safely secluded away from busy streets. Magical setting with pools, fields and tennis courts. Sports are a priority and interscholastic competition introduced in the 5th grade. Children exhibit great poise. Public speaking skills developed. The ability to speak directly with the Administrator's, priceless! Best room in the house: THE LIBRARY Cons: Favoritism towards students of wealthy donors or those heavily invested in volunteerism (i.e. pictures of students on website). Not all children get the same support or encouragement- such as invitations to address the public at 'Open House.' Sadly, school has annually underestimated the potential of graduating minority students. Comments heard 'I don't think your child can get into THAT school' or 'not the Right fit.' Yet, these children were accepted.
12/22/2008parentOur daughter recently graduated after 10 years at Buckley. She is now doing exceptionally well at one of Manhattan's best private independent high schools. Buckley delivered on its mission in every way. This school truly enables each child to reach his or her full potential and instills the values and develops the skills children will need to succeed in the global community.
12/12/2008parentMy daughter and son both go to Buckley, it has been a great experience
11/17/2008parentOur family has been at Buckley for sixteen wonderful years. Our two oldest now attend an excellent college thanks in part to the challenging curriculum and caring faculty at Buckley. Our youngest has literally grown up at Buckley and considers it a second home. He has benefited from the tremendous dedication of an outstanding faculty and has made numerous friends from varied backgrounds that have enriched his life considerably. In addition to the extensive curriculum, Buckley gives each child an education beyond the books by encouraging competitive sports, community service and awareness of current events which help them to understand the part they play in this world of ours. I would not trade one minute of how we have been enriched as a family over the years. Simply said, Buckley is an outstanding school, one that strives to reach beyond the average school and achieves that every day! Linda Powers
7/29/2008studentOMG i am student at the school and I LOVE IT! Okay sure uniforms, but still the teachers there are great i have trouble choosing my favorite one! Homework is a downer but A. that is every school and B. after ctps (some type of state test or something????) after we work hard we play hard. on that friday we have relay races in our socks! SOOOO much fun i seriously dont know if i could graduate from this place, I mean i did start when i was 3 years old. Hope I helped!
3/25/2008parentMy child attended Buckley and being of African American decent I didn't feel comfortable. Teachers have no idea how to deal with the attitudes and behaviors of minority children. It is also not a comfortable environment for minority children. I'm in a great profession but was often frowned upon as if I was receiving some sort of grant to attend.
2/5/2006parentBuckley allows for children to grow in self esteem and confidence. Children are allowed to feel freedom of discourse among a group of intellectuals. Respect among peers and teachers is paramount. Guidance in self study and rigorous academic success is nutured and rewarded.
9/29/2005parentI have a daughter in the Seventh Grade. The quality of the academics and teachiing methods are superb. There is also a very supportive, family-like atmosphere.
