Mendota, IL is a small town in LaSalle County with a population of around 7,500 people. It has a mayor-council form of government, with the mayor and eight council members elected on an at-large basis. Mendota residents are largely conservative and vote for Republican candidates in local and national elections. The current mayor is Richard Pannier, who was re-elected to his fifth term in 2019. The other council members serve four year terms and are made up of representatives from all parts of the city. They work together to address community issues and make decisions about local issues by discussing and voting on proposed legislation. In recent years the Council has passed measures to improve infrastructure such as roads, parks, and recreational areas as well as to create jobs through economic development projects. The Council also works closely with local businesses to promote growth within the region.
