Sterling Heights, Michigan is a city located in Macomb County and is the fourth most populous city in Michigan. It is a highly populated area with many families, businesses, and organizations. Politically speaking, Sterling Heights has had a long history of being represented by Republicans at the state level. The current mayor is Michael Taylor who was elected in 2013 and is a Republican. On the county level, Sterling Heights elects three members to the Macomb County Board of Commissioners. It also elects representatives to both U.S Congress and U.S Senate. For the most part, these officials are also Republican which shows there is strong support for conservative politics in Sterling Heights. The city also has several local political action committees that encourage citizens to get involved and exercise their right to vote for candidates they feel best represent them. Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).
