The Midwest region of Wyoming is a vast and diverse area, with many different types of political systems in place. The state is divided into 23 counties, each with its own governing body. The most populous county in the region is Natrona County, which is home to around 75,000 people. In addition to local governments, there are also several tribal governments, such as the Wind River Indian Reservation and the Shoshone and Arapaho Tribes of the Wind River Reservation, both of which have their own local governments. On the state level, Wyoming is governed by an executive branch headed by a governor and a legislative branch that consists of two houses: the House of Representatives and the Senate. All three branches work together to set policies that affect all citizens living in the state. Elections for these offices are held every four years on the first Tuesday after November 1st.
At both the local and state levels there are many political parties represented in WY politics. These include Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, and various smaller parties such as Green Party or Constitution Party members. Each party has its own beliefs about how best to serve their constituents and move forward policy initiatives that will positively impact citizens across Wyoming. There are also nonpartisan candidates running for office who don’t have any particular party affiliations but share similar beliefs. Regardless of party affiliation or lack thereof, all candidates must strive to represent their constituents fairly and make decisions that are beneficial for all Wyomingites regardless of political views or backgrounds.

Midwest, Wyoming: R R R R R R

How It Works:
Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.

Here's the VoteWord for Iowa d r d d r. In the last six elections the state has been closely contested, voting narrowly for the Republican Party candidate in 2016 and 2020 after voting for the Democratic Party in 2008 and 2012. Virginia (r r d d d D) has voted for the Democratic Party in the last three elections.
