dothan alabama is the worst place in the united states to live, srry but the period on my keyboard isnt working ,I have lived here for four years and its a nightmare,The police here are very crooked and violent, they are well known for writing false police reports on innocent people, alot of dothan police are either on trial for harrassing people ,abusing, and writing false police reports or just corrupting the badge, alot of the officers here have been arrested and fired but not because of any good doing by our police chief ,its only because some innocent person took the inititive to fight back against a crooked system, people here are very ignorant and slow,if you come here it will be like stepping into a world of very uneducated retards, yes my friends even the mayor himself is unable to be reasoned here,if you come here i promise you your civil rights will be violated, the people here have nothing to do but gossip about each other and start trouble,me and my family are trying tomoive from here asap, this is also a very prejudice town, white or black you willalways have problems ,imwarning you dont come here[read more...] |

RUN AWAY - 6/30/2009
Welcome to Hick Ville, Alabama
If you want to move to Dothan I want to warn you run as fast as you can. If you want to wait 5 months for the Dothan Police Detectives to get in touch with you about stolen merchandise please come. If you like racial profiling please come here. If you want your Mayor to tax you to death and like 9% tax please come. The companies are ok but if you get a job with PEMCO be ready to work 70-80 a week for 3 weeks and then have one day off then come. They also have no air to keep you cool while you work and if you are a minority be ready to have everybody single you out and call you racial names while their HR Department does nothing. This place is called the “Good Ole Boy Club”. If you want rude, uneducated people to deal with in this town please come. If you like your representatives to represent their own ideas and care nothing for you and what you and your family needs please come to Dothan. If you like to have shallow existences then come. If you like corrupt cops and a corrupt Police Chef with Internal Affairs then please come to Dothan… I am sure that they want your money too. If you get pulled over by Police here and get a ticket to come to court and are white then be ready to have the female black judge take you for everything you have… while she slaps her own kind on the wrist. Welcome to the City of Justice. Still want to come?

Dothan AL - 11/17/2008
Dothan is a nice small city to live in and raise a family. The crime rate is low and the cost of living is cheap. The big down fall to Dothan is the shopping is not that great and there's not much of a social scene. If you are a noght owl don't bother because the city close down after 10pm. The school system really need to upgrade and improve.(think home school or private) But as for safety, good food, good churches, and friendly people. There's plenty of it.[read more...] |

Vlaues - 11/13/2007
I grew up in Dothan, AL and feel fortunate that I developed a good value system. Did not matter if you were rich or poor. Tried to do the same with my kids, but we live in Atlanta with 5 mllion+ people. Did not have to drive foreign cars or wear designer clothes. Good people. Great weather (Hot in the summer). Good golf courses. Rick B[read more...] |

Great Small Town - 5/17/2007
Bret has issues. I moved here from San Diego, CA. Dothan is a GREAT little city. Easy access to numerous vacation spots. Travel times- Florida Beaches 1 hour, Atlanta 3 hrs, New Orleans, Orlando, Savanna, St Augustine are all 5 hrs. Smokey Mountains 5 hrs. The people are friendly. The Medical Facilities are the best in a 250 mile radius. Lots of small industry. Crime is the lowest I have ever seen. I've lived in New Orleans, San Diego, and Springfield, MO.[read more...] |

Don't listen to Bret - 12/31/2006
Bret is a stuck up Northern Liberal and that explains everything he said. There aren't a lot of great jobs in Dothan, but it is one of America's best kept secrets. The fact that there is no commercialization (as Bret says and apparently doesn't like) is one of the reasons. There is some money in Dothan and it's not "old" money either. Dothan wasn't even founded until 1880's. (Go to Valdosta if you want to see the real influence of old money.) If you have a good job that sends you there it's a good place to raise kids. One of the friendliest towns I've ever lived in. Don't buy the uneducation Bret mentioned. It's not true. Plenty of educated people in Dothan.[read more...] |

Concerning Dothan,AL - 2/8/2006
I grew up in Dothan and still consider it my home. I do not think it is a bustling metropolis by any means, but it is a great place to grow up and enjoy life. Jobs are not great, I will give you that. I have had to relocate in order to find a career where my degree is actually utilized. There are several crooked organizations and individuals that keep the industry from coming to Dothan, and that is quite a shame. I feel that it could realize a much greater potential if it were allowed to, but the old money in town keeps it from growing.
As far as the education is concerned…I believe that the initiative of the individual being educated in Dothan is more or less a predictor of that person’s success and personal intelligence. I have met and known many unintelligent people in my life, and not all of them have been in or come from Dothan.
In short, Dothan is a great place to live if you are content with what a smaller town has to offer. It does not have the greatest shopping or industry, but there is plenty for you to do if you familiarize yourself with the area. We are very close to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world (and no I am not talking about Panama City Beach, although it is quite beautiful in places). As Bret mentioned, the National Peanut Festival and its festivities are something to behold each fall. There are a number of Alabama/Florida/Georgia state parks within a decent driving distance. And, Dothan is close enough to several larger cities, so if you are craving city life, it can be found with a short drive. Dothan is a wonderful, small, Southern city, full of kind people and Southern hospitality.

Dothan advice - 8/28/2005
to all who may read this posting. some words of caution before moving here. my wife & i moved here from milwaukee, WI a little over a year ago. there are not many jobs available here. the city is run on old money & the current administration has no real interest in trying to grow the city to allow more revenue in. the people here are genuinely unintelligent-to the point that you'll have to repeat yourself time & time again because they either aren't listening or they just aren't getting it. if you enjoy small town living & have a love for peanuts (dothan is the peanut capital of the world) come on down. but, don't let the population numbers fool you. i grew up in a town with 4000 residents-this is comparable. everyone knows everyone, there is no commercialization to this town, and it has been my experience that because everyone knows everyone & because there is nothing else to do other than to go to one of the TWO wal-mart supercenters, people talk about other people & spread rumors. personally, my wife & i are looking for the quickest way out of this town. but, if you still decide you want to come to alabama (i'm not just speaking of dothan, now), while driving, be aware & drive very defensively. we have the some of the lowest education numbers in the country & the highest accident & fatality rates in the country.[read more...] |
