Review of Colorado Springs, Colorado

Are you moving here?
Star Rating - 11/30/2008
I have lived in colorado springs most of my life. (23years)I have also lived in L.A. , Minneapolis and Portland,Or. Colorado Springs is a relatively good place to raise kids and to enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, climbing, parks and recreation. The weather is typically very nice. Even in the winter the misconception of ALOT of snow is not necessarily the case. If and when it does snow in the winter it usually is melted away by that same day or the next day.

HOWEVER..... purely my opinion coming: Colorado Springs is FULL of conservative people and has a very conservative atmosphere. Conservative meaning, no culture, no acceptance of diversity, no nightlife, no museums or intersting places to visit other than "Old Colorado city and manitou" (which really are over rated anyhow)

Futher proving my claim of Conservative....
I am a white male with a black wife and 3 intteracial children, and if you happen to be in a certain area of town,we seam to be looked down on or unaccepted or at the very least we catch many, many looks from " CONSERVATIVES". Some may call them "rednecks" or "yuppees". I'll just be nice and say conservatives.

The job market is and has been suffering for a while. The city is full of CAll-Center jobs. I was formerly not educated from college and worked mostly call center work. I found that majority of my co-workers in similiar positions were all educated people and working for the same below average wages as myself. Unless you have some type of trade or small business here the only other well paying employment is The military.

There are 4-5 military bases in this city and if it werent for the military here there would be absolutely no diversity, no culture, no black or hispanic or asian americans. There would be nothing but retired , closet racists here if it werent for the military, with a small population of free spirited college students.

Last but not least.... compared to other cities I have lived, there really arent very many GOOD places to eat out. All in all, Colorado Springs can be a good place to live especially to raise kids. It all just depends on what the individual wants out of life. After living here for many years and seeing so much conservative values.. I would prefer to have my children grow up in a more diverse and cultured upbringing without the hustlke and bustle of a big city. Now I just have to try to find this description of what I'm looking for. HaHa

Your obsession with "diversity" makes it sound like you are the true racist here. You assume that everyone in CO Springs are "closet racists" I bet you are one of those that says anyone is a racist that criticizes Obama. You might want to move to San Francisco where you can be around flaming liberals like yourself and you can continue preaching your new found religion called "diversity." With diversity comes crime, so take your pick. Do you want diversity and have to worry about your house getting robbed when you go to work? Nah, diversity isn't important to any normal thinking person. I think you are the real racist with your obsession on diversity. Get a life!

Hello Joseph, I really liked the description you gave about Colorado Springs. I'm actually thinking about moving to Colorado from Tucson, Az. I'm looking for a nice place to live in with the city vibe yet a good place to raise my kids. So if you do happen to find that place , please let me know.

No disrespect, whatsoever. That said, understand that an over abundance of so-called diversity often equates to crime-ridden, rundown neighborhoods and or cities. That's just an inconvenient truth folks. Don't get me wrong! I love ethnic food and culture. However, that's not to say I feel we need Mexican restaurants on every corner. Moreover, do I believe anyone else appreciates graffiti-writing gang bangers on every corner either. If you think I'm a racist then try contrasting a city's crime rate to the ethnic population and see for yourself. Oh, and since when does being a conservative equate to being a racist? Diversity, to a degree, is great. But understand, it usually comes with a price called crime. Regardless of my political views, I'm just like anyone else in that I want to live in a safe place that has decent weather, and a place that has a variety of things to do.

I believe you are talking of racism...not conservatives. Definition of conservative - Adjective. Preservative, having power to preserve in a safe or entire state, or from loss, waste or injury. Definition of racism - Noun. 1. a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. 2. racial prejudice. We are all created in the image of God. Therefore, they are slapping God in the face if they look down upon you...or is it they don't see much of in your area? Not unlike what curious children do when they see a disabled person and then this becomes a teaching lesson so let this be a teaching lesson as well. ALL children are a blessing from God! ENJOY Colorado Springs!

Colorado Springs is great place if you like small cities. The traffic can be congested, but the biggest problem is people from areas that don't know how to drive when the streets get wet. I like the fact that people are conservative, but I get the feeling that they only feel that way because it's a meal ticket (military town). The houses are mostly tract homes that are'nt built very well (poor quality). There are'nt alot of good paying jobs since the tech. companys have been leaving. The price of homes are over priced unless you live in the southeastern part of town. The only problem with that is the homes are'nt very nice and it is very deserty in that part of the metro area. It is a melting pot of people from all over the world (military). I like to hunt and fish and the elk and deer numbers are low as compared to the rest of the state. Trophy hunting is pretty good you just may have to hunt 3 or more years to get a crack a booner. If you like being a true outdoorsman and not a yuppy skier or rock climber or kayaker, this is not that great of place. I've scoured the hills trust me I live in the mountains near pikes peak. The traffic gets worse every year, alot of big city dwellers moving here, and most of them think it's great. I guess perspective 9/10ths of anything! To me it's not that great, unless you like to stare at mountains otherwise it's over run with people.
