Review of Phoenix, Arizona

Is Phoenix worth moving to. Heard so many horrific
Star Rating - 10/4/2015
I live in New York and I am thinking of moving to Sun City Grand in Surprise.
It is absolutely beautiful.
The home I am thinking of renting is super nice and only $975 per month.
I heard some of the worth comments about life in Phoenix.
So many have moved.
Most say it is very hard to find work.
Many say the peoole are unfriendly, ultra conservative, very republican, judgemental, and SOULESS.
If this is true, then I do not want to be apart of this place.

I would appreciate hearing from people who have relocated to Phoenix.
Thanks

Yes the people are nasty but it has nothing to do with political affiliation. Yes good work at a decent wage is hard to find and yes the people are judgmental and soulless. New Yorkers wouldn't be happy there.

Some of what you say is true, but having lived in Phoenix for 15 years, it can be a nice place to call home. I've had a good job for many years, but it depends on what you do. The weather this time of year is hard to beat anywhere. I've met some fantastic friends from both political affiliations and the next door neighbors are decent, hard working people. There are many good restaurants to enjoy, shopping for all budgets, and getting out this time of year for activities like hiking, is very enjoyable. There are problems as with any major city, but Phoenix life is what you make it. A positive attitude can help. If you love the beauty of the desert and amazing climate, come and try it for a year. You may be glad you did!

Dear S. Every Horrific story you heard is true! I am from Westchester County N.Y. and I would write a long paragraph telling you so, but I am currently extremely too busy packing to get out of this Hell On Earth ASAP, to move back to N.Y. DON'T DO IT!!!

I lived in SCG for five years. If you get along with people from the upper midwest, you might find friends. We are creative liberal types and could not make friends except those we knew from Colorado and California. It's a service and older people based economy. There are many health providers who are in it for the money and you need to pick and choose who takes care of you. Remember if the rent seems ok your ac bills in the summer could be close to $300 a mo. SCG is beautiful and has great pools and walking areas people don't use as much as you might think. And yes, it felt soulless, judgmental, straight, with a few exceptions of course. The summers are unbearably hot, be prepared to live indoors. Would I move there again? NO

All of this is true. I lived there for 28 years. On top of that, it's super ugly.

I couldn't agree more. I left Chicago to come here 4 months ago and that was the worst decision I ever made. Phoenix is a huge disappointment I have never seen so much white trash in my life. And it not limited to low income. These ppl are devoid from culture and education in the worst way. You'll be lucky to find s decent library that's convenient. I'm literally counting the days until I leave this place. I will say Phoenix has its own charm and if you are older and more settled this may not be so bad. Phoenix lacks a sophistication and they are way behind the times in every way imaginable. It does has parts yhat are enjoyable but svottsdale road pales to Michigan Ave. I like to order Thai, Korean, and Jamaican without leaving my home. I shouldn't have to wait in Starbucks 15 mins for coffe and it's no one else there besides me. There is no sense of urgency no color or culture. The only thing I can say that's great is I'm close to Vegas. LA, SF, and I will take advantage of that. I would much rather deal with snow n center vs 120 130 degree heat indexes. It's miserable. So I have to say I couldn't agree more and I can't wait to leave.

You heard correctly. People are rude and very republican. I have lived here for years and I am ready to move. It keeps getting worse. People drive on the freeway like its the autobahn with no regard to fellow driver's safety. Almost everyday you will see major accidents. Check out Tucson, it's older town but people are friendly and do have a soul. Hope this helps.

I lived there for 8 years, by the end of my time there I couldn't wait to get out. I will agree it is very unfriendly and hard to meet decent people. Good luck finding a meaningful job because there seems to be little opportunity. I'd say rethink this decision.
