Review of Denver, Colorado

Living in the Denver area
Star Rating - 4/14/2015
My rent has increased over $600 since 2012 when I moved here and there is next to none competition in rents. The thing you hear over and over is "everyone wants to live here so deal with it" when one asks about the insane increases in rent per year. I have seen Denver and the surrounding area in the foothills change significantly in the past three years and not for the best. The land here won't support the growth but obviously the builders don't really care. The traffic is awful the infrastructure hasn't and isn't keeping up with the growth. The I-25 corridor is insane. The people are, by and large the most unfriendly I have ever encountered. They are standoffish and not welcoming to newcomers. It's a beautiful place, but if you're not into battling the traffic into the backcountry on the weekends.....Have heard that the western slope is a totally different place. I came here with high hopes, don't get me wrong, the backcountry is incredibly beautiful but it's not affordable for regular people. I guess if you come from Cali, or TX and have money it's the place for you.

This is so true. We love the outdoor activities that are available and the natural beauty, but for us, it's become unaffordable to even go to the mountains because hotels are so expensive. We have to move to another state because our salary will not cover the outrageous rent they charge here. Buying a house is out of the question unless you are rich.

Spot on mate ! That is what happens when urban planners are not progressive visionaries. They and City Hall pander to those with corporate clout and political power, the developers ( who don't care about how a city develops just filling their own deep pockets!) instead of working for the majority of the public. But may be it is also because people have little civic pride in Denver and are dis-engaged and don't demand for this to really change. More of the same seems en vogue. This is very different in NYC or Boston. Anyways when you talk about people's aloofness and being standoffish it resonates, as I think about my town ( Toronto / Canada) as being exactly like that, even though it claims to be a global multi-cultural city, people are not liberal nor open minded because it, actually I think people are becoming more conservative and are so consumed by themselves and fighting to survive to get $$$ and do not see how they are de-humanising day be day. It is tragic.
