Thinking of moving to Greensboro, NC
Star Rating - 7/29/2014
Not a review. Looking for answers.
I am 72 y/o single woman living in central NY state is thinking of moving to Greensboro, NC in a year or two. I would like honest (hopefully more positive than negative) regarding living in Greensboro. My first attraction was for Boone, NC, but upon reading about Boone, it sounds expensive. I am retired, do not work, have fixed income. Living in central NY continues to be expensive; hoping to find something that will be economically attractive and friendly toward retired people.

Thank you.

Judy

Nancy, Nice to hear from you. When do you plan to move? I am planning a summer 2015 move as my lease here runs out in Sept. 2015. I am driving down Oct. 6, 2014 for a visit for a few days. Also want to explore some other places. Maybe Winston-Salem, along with others. Finance is a concern so have to look for places I can afford. How would you like to stay in touch?

Linda, thank you for your positive feedback. Being at the stage of life I am in, I am not looking for parties, etc. I like the quiet life, a chance to enjoy the beauty of nature outdoors. I am leaving here Oct. 6, 2014 to visit for a few days. I am also considering Winston-Salem. Being on retirement income, I need to stay within my means.

My daughter and I are LI,NY natives. We travel from around Danville,Va to there every Saturday.Friendly AVE is nice.We like the shopping center (friendly center) which has Harris Teeter grocery, ulta, old navy, restaurants,Barnes & Noble,Whole Foods and some many more places.I've met a lot of other northerners which is nice but I can truly say it's the friendliest place in the south I've been to so far. There are many homes right past this shopping center to the west(streets or subdivisions)If I lived here I'd pick this area. Many people are walking around this area (moms or dads with strollers, etc) because there are sidewalks which is pretty unique to the places I've lived so far.HB,NY had them...I loved to walk places. We love grocery shopping at Earthfare on Battleground AVE but not safe to be a pedestrian there(too busy, fast traffic)We've gone to the mall on the south side.I haven't seen all the homes but you'd have to look before you buy.Went to a restaurant around Elm,food was good, waitress was rude.A consignment shop there had wonderful people.I come I-29 south to Greenville and when approaching it looks like a getto(cops always surrounding houses or houses on fire almost 70%) so this area's not safe! The architecture in some areas are very nice and some are old + have amazing character. To sum it up,people are nice!,choose your area carefully like any city! See you at Barnes & Noble for a coffee and a nice chat a favorite meeting place for families, friends, college students + retirees or at one of the Vietnamese restaurants on Market St (we are trying every one!) God Bless! Linda
