Review of Dallas, Texas

If you have a choice, go elsewhere
Star Rating - 2/18/2024
I seldom review anything but I was inspired by reading the other Dallas reviews to add my two cents. I’ve been here since 2015 and we hope to leave when we can get jobs elsewhere. The driving is terrifying and there’s a ton of it; no where you want to go is less than 20 minutes each way. The housing is not affordable, at all, and you have to drive by beautiful, expensive houses that make you feel like you’re dying inside to get home to your house. There is a lot of racism and segregation and no interest in changing things. And there are no easily accessible, nice public spaces, especially not close to the affordable housing. If you aren’t here yet and you have options, look elsewhere.

Agreed. We've been here since 2014 and are actively applying for positions to relocate. We've been completing more educational courses and certifications to qualify for different positions. I can't stand driving around here even if it's just to go to the grocery store. The few times we've gone to Dallas or Fort Worth to try something new it's such an exhausting effort and we're just annoyed by the time we get there. We rarely bother going anywhere outside of a five mile radius anymore. The traffic has increased significantly in the past few years. Anyone wanting to move here check the DFW Scanner and DFW Scanner Group daily. There are some unsafe areas and intersections which often have fatal traffic accidents and see for yourself. I live on a 30 mph street which leads to a main highway. Drivers speed through here everyday. I hear sirens almost everyday. It hasn't always been like this. The last two years have changed significantly and environmental noise is noticeably louder. I sit on the back patio wanting to decompress and there's a constant humming noise of traffic still going late night. In 2014 - 2019 this place was doable and tolerable. We were comfortable. We had viable options to possibly move around in the metroplex. Property taxes and electricity have increased. It's not doable anymore. A year ago we finally just said let's get out of the state. This isn't the worst place or the best place. It is what it is. Depends on what one can deal with. I think someone who was born and raised here will see things differently, but they too have seen traffic and expenses increase compared to what it was. I've been thinking about when we first came here and how much of a positive view point I've had to be here. My view point has changed significantly. This might be a minor thing, but I've come across quite a few "off" people and some are in customer service. Some are customers. Some are neighbors. Something just feels off or not normal so many times. I'm thinking maybe because this place is unbalanced. Too much of one thing and not enough of another. We have what we need, but there's always the but. But, can we have what we need somewhere else? We're looking to relocate to a mid-sized city, moderately paced, less urban sprawl, less traffic, less noise, safer, more open natural spaces, and quality over quantity.
