10/29/2012parentMy son has a fantastic teacher, he is learning and kept engrossed throughout the day at this school he doesn't feel bored. He feels like he learns new things everyday. The whole staff and parent community are involved. So glad we made the switch to this school this year. He can't wait to talk about his day at dinner with us at night.
8/2/2012parentI have nothing but great things to say about Desert Cove!! I have 3 kids attending. My oldest has been attending since Kindergarden (2007) and will be starting 5th grade next week. We have moved out of district and the kids refused to go anywhere but Desert Cove! The PTO is great with a huge parent involvement. I have spoken one on one with the principal with any concern I have, and always am very impressed with the outcome! The teachers are very involved and always available to meet after or before school. My kids and I give Desert Cove an A+.
5/26/2012parentMy son moved to Desert Cove in December. I have been so impressed with this school! The principal communicates and cares about the students. The teachers are amazing and it truly feels like the small private school we could no longer afford. We have not missed a thing and love this school! Academics are top notch, my son is finally challenged. He says the work before was boring but now he loves the type of work he does, the way the teacher works with him, and how interesting each and every day is. This school feels like family and I am out of district. One other thing to meniton, the ladies at the front desk are so kind, friendly and helpful. This is HUGE! After years of trying to get information from the school by our house I have found them to be so comforting and easy to communicate with. It just helps make everything else that is wonderful really amazing... and the PTO is wonderful as well!
5/20/2012parentOur experience with Desert Cove has been phenomenal! No complaints and the kids love it there.
2/29/2012parentBoth of my kids have gone to this school a long time, one since 2nd grade who is now in middle school, and the other since kindergarten and is currently in 4th grade. I have a lot of respect and admiration for the teachers and staff that are at Desert Cove. My oldest child had some attention issues and every teacher, each year, was very willing to work with us to find ways to help her focus and stay on task, and above all get the most out of her education. I am very grateful to all of them for their hard work and attention, which is so difficult to provide in a public school setting. Both of my kids have been in the gifted/honors classes and I have to say that has been one of the BEST aspects of their education. The teacher is AMAZING! The classes are tough, but she is very fair and her focus is on making sure the kids are challenged and understand the materials. She is communicative and very proactive in discussing potential issues with parents. I don't think I could ask for a better teacher, role model, and mentor for my kids. No school or person (teacher) is perfect, but I am grateful that the staff and teachers at Desert Cove do their very best for our kids... every day.
1/29/2012parentRead the prior review and am sorry for that families experience. I just wanted to comment that I had an issue that needed attention from teacher and principal this school year and it was dealt with professionally and promptly. Overall, I feel teachers and administration seem very committed to their students and that's what I hear from several other parents as well.
11/14/2011parentThis school has amazing teachers, well behaved students, and friendly/helpful parents. What it lacks is a principal! The one they have does not think of the students first it is all about money and attendence! My daughter is a transfer student who was absent due to illness and he told me to bring her even when sick because when she misses school they loose out on money. Well I am not a parent who would ever send my sick child to school to spread germs to everyone else! And I was then informed she would be transferred to her home school if she was absent anymore. Ridiculous and tramatizing for the child!
4/29/2010parentthis a very good school the teachers are great and all the staff are very caring towards the students and the food they serve is much better then most schools food i highly recamend this school
3/11/2010parentDesert Cove has been a good experience for our children the majority of the time. Both of our sons have had the opportunity to learn from some excellent teachers! However, during my son's 4th grade year in 2006-2007, his teacher was extremely weak in her academic support as well as her classroom management! The principal at the time never followed through with any intervention stratagies and support for our son. It was a very long year for him and us!
9/3/2009otherExcellent teachers, great school. Keep up the good work
7/10/2009parentFor now I will just say that I have beento several school throughtout the valley and my kids were in 'the best' school in the same district; but i am so happy my children are back at Dessert Cove. The teachers are amazing, the office staff is always very friendly and helpful.
5/26/2009parentI am very, very very pleased with desert cove as a school!!! I also have a first grader there who loves her teacher and her school!!! she is excited to go everyday!!! we have been blessed with her first two years in school that she had such a wonderful school to go too and more importantly such great teachers!!!! She loves her principal and is thrilled that he says hello to every student by name!!! I am glad that my other kids will be going to Desert Cove too- thanks to all the staff who make this a wonderful envirnment for the children!!!
2/13/2009parentI have a 1st grader that requires constant reminders to stay on task. . . follow directions. He is bright but has always required these reminders. This school continues to gloss over his needs and focus on the overall classroom environment. My son has 'fallen behind' his peers in his reading ability and will now be placed in a tutoring program (free at the school - thankfully). I would love to see follow through on promises to work with him instead of recriminations that I need to read to him more or statements that he needs to 'stay on task' followed by little to no suggestions on how to achieve this requirement. I have begun to feel that this is a good school that just can't meet my particular child's needs.
10/1/2008parentMy son attended Desert Cove after Gold Dust was closed. He was bullied constantly and the staff failed to act. The principal put off action repeatedly. Offenders are allowed to run rampant. If your child has any issues of any sort do not send him here. The amount of devastation that was done to my child's self esteem has not been repaired. It sounds like not much has changed by way of leadership at this school.
9/18/2008parentThe discipline measure are not consistent. The conferences are unstructured. The special schedule is confusing to follow. Too many 'clicks'.
12/26/2007parentI have always thought of Desert Cove as a quality school and stayed in the area so that my children can attend however, we have seen the school decline and continue to be unsatisfied by the answers provided by the site administration. The school was just remodeled and is beautiful but the beautiful building leaves many academic needs. The classrooms are as outdated as the previous building due to the lack of current technology needed to provide a quality up-to-date education. Only one smartboard (which is a teaching tool that is becoming a technology necessity) was provided in the entire school building. Last year many children that received gifted services went without services for the entire second half of the school year due the lack of a gifted teacher. Even after administration was approached with the need to provide a substitute or additional services none were given. The approach seems to be take it or leave. I believe that teachers care but I wonder if the school has a true mission of success for all children and a plan to get there. My husband and I strongly believe in public education but, for the first time are looking educational alternatives for our children.
12/21/2007parentDesert Cove is a long standing elementary school with an excellent and very experienced staff! Teachers, administration and PTSO work beyond the call of duty to support the students. The school is not perfect, however it is obvious that the staff cares and is dedicated to the success of each child.
12/14/2007parentThe school has some very good teachers, a few active and involved parents and a great tradition of putting students first. Unfortunately, the school is desperate for some able and competent leadership. Both the principal and leaders of the parent group are dampening the spirit and enthusiasm of a great school.
11/1/2007parentThe building might be brand new, but don't let that fool you, there are many problems within, most of which stem from the principal. He might seem like he is interested in making the school a better place, but fails to follow through on action. A few of the teachers are way past the point at which they should be teaching, and 2 in particular which have severe health problems which cause each of them to be absent for weeks at a time. These bad apples detract from the great teachers and programs which are offered at the school, and slowly the good teachers are becoming discouraged, and leaving one by one.
1/10/2006parentMy daugher has attended Desert Cove Elementary now for 2 years. We have been very happy with the school. There is a very active, and strong PTO, and the principal really seems interested in helping make the school a better place. They have after school activities, including Choir/Drama, etc. We will be sad to see my daughter move on to Middle School next year, because these last two years have been wonderful. The teachers are also great, and really take an interest in every child.
4/11/2005parentGreat Public School, teachers have been there for YEARS, Principal is very involved, teaches in each class for a portion of a day - EVERY WEEK. Knows every child in the school.
9/1/2004parentThis school is great. One of the nicest schools in pv district.
4/16/2004parentSchool is highly academic with a text-book approach. Children are expected to 'fit the mold' and 'outside-the-box' thinkers are not rewarded, but rather parent's are asked to take part in medicating the child. The Principal and staff are nice and helpful. Many are teachers with a long history under their belt. However, they fail to take action on promises made to subdue upset parents when problems arise. While this school is wonderful for the academics it lacks in the personal one-on-one approach. The individual student that can not keep up will quickly be left behind with little concern from teachers or peers.
4/23/2003 As a parent of a special needs child, I am happy to be part of a team that is completely dedicated to my son's education and well-being. There is also a sense of community that I have not experienced at other schools. The principal, the teachers, the administrative staff, just everyone has been so welcoming to my son and our family. I look forward to all four of my children attending school here.
3/27/2003  Desert Cove Elementary is a superior elementary school within the PVUSD system. Certainly the open enrollment figures of 29% reflect the fact that other parents, like myself, have selected Desert Cove as their school of choice over their designated schools. It is worth the trip!
10/15/2002 Desert Cove has been an inspiration to my daughter who is now in the 4th grade. Her teachers have been excellent in the matter of helping the children to become a part of society and in wanting to learn. My daughter has been very excited about wanting to read more on a daily basis and to be involved in the community. The teachers are preparing the students for Jr. high and High school level by teaching them to enjoy school and the work they produce. The accomplishments go on. The school has also taken an approach of safety for the children that I am very comfortable with. Since my daughter is my only child, I am very protective to say the least. I feel that Desert Cove takes pride in their children and in their safety.
