6/20/2012parentMy kids recently graduated from Mt Carmel, and were thrilled with the caring teachers, and also parent volunteers. Thank you to all!
12/19/2010studentgreat school! i originally planned on going to Westview due to the fact that it was rated higher. But MC didn't bring me down. I graduated MC with big scholarships to many great colleges....ussd usla, usberkley, stanford, even harvard. I had a fantastic experience at MC and urge everyone who can to become a MC sun devil!
7/12/2010studentExcellent school with wonderful staff and teachers. I truly received a great education and had a great experience at MC. I felt very prepared for college.
10/10/2009parentbest choir program and they treat both students and parents with dignity
5/14/2009studentDecent school, nice teachers. Though after graduating I realized that despite seeking help through counselors that I was completely unprepared for college, both mentally and educationally. I've had to repeat classes I 'passed' in high school with all my grades 'C' and above.
8/15/2007parentThis is an excellent school. The teachers are highly experienced and very committed to their work; they certainly put in much more than 100% effort. Level of parent involvement is similarly good, as is the Principal. All this makes for a top-notch school environment. There are many extracurricular activities, some of which compete at the national level and place very highly. My daughter has attended MCHS for a year and has enjoyed it immensely. We're looking forward to another 3 successful years.
6/19/2007parentThis is school is outstanding. It consists of great teachers and wonderful programs that prepared mt son's to graduate and attend great colleges. My oldest son graduated in 1999 and was accepted to UCLA. My youngest son who graduated last year 2006, got accepted to USD. What more could I ask for? I'm just hoping my last child would do as well as her older brothers. Great school! No doubt about it!
6/4/2007studentPHS is a great school! The athletics are amazing the girls sports are really top notch. and they people here are amazing.
5/18/2007parentGreat new principal! Lots of AP and honors classes (ex: AP-Art History, Environmental Science, European Civic, Honors Precalculus, Oceanography program is phenomenal!). Academics, at this school, are so challenging that they have a tutorial program for all students available on a weekly basis. This school demonstrates a camaraderie unparalled to any of the other schools in which I've been exposed to. Girls Basketball just won CIF. The band was invited to the Rose Parade, yet again! Good School, Great Teachers, Great parent support, Awesome community involvement!
9/5/2006former studenti absoluteley love mt. carmel. not only is everyone there amazing, they welcome new people in open arms. iwent there freshman year, and instantly made a new clique of friends. unfortunateley i moved to colorado, but if i had the choice, i would definitley move back and finish school there.
8/25/2006former studentI know I'm not a parent yet...but I am a former student. Mt. Carmel is an excellent school that has many of the best teachers in the district, especially AP teachers. Mt. Carmel's education has given me a good foundation and, in fact, I might have been prepared too well as some classes at UC Irvine (yes..one of those venerable UC's) are teaching what I learned at Mt. Carmel my junior and senior years there. it is a great student that has strong academics, though a possibly subpar sports program .
8/26/2005parentMy daughter just began at Mt. Carmel. She loves her teachers and her classes. Unfortunatly, the school is in the middle of a remodel. Big bummer!
2/3/2005parentMy Son began school there today, so I have no real information. However, when I registered him yesterday, I was impressed with the women who helped my son and I with our adjustments to Mt. Carmel.
11/29/2004parentMy daughter and I have both gone to this school. I've found that the school has only improved since I left in 1989. MCHS prepares children for college, giving them all the necessary classes to qualify for the UC system. It has a wide variety of classes available from the basis level to the very advanced. I'm very happy with their programs and with the teachers, who really seem to enjoy teaching.
4/13/2004parentAlthough this site has chosen to not address true parent concerns, I will again post my opinions. This school needs an administration overhaul. The interest is not in the quality of education, but on issue suppression. The Principal is absent a considerable amount of time, the AP's do their best which is not often enough. The AD needs to retire and has kept more kids from athletics than he has promoted. Teachers have been pulled away to better opportunities at Westview and those that are left, while mostly good, have little support. This school is perceived as the 'ghetto' school of PUSD for a reason. Clean up the administration, clean up the expectations, start expelling the trouble and start raising test scoires - scores that have dropped every year under the current leadership. Great extracurriculars save these kids from an otherwise downtroden existence!
1/26/2004parentthe school is Ok but the career counselors should do more to advise students about career opportunities and should help them more prepare for scholarship opportunities; find colleges suitable to students needs; should give seminars at school not leaflets.
10/25/2003parentMt Carmel has several outstanding teachers and extracurricular activities. Their school paper is ranked 6th in the nation, an award winning photography program, awesome music program, great minor sports such as water polo and women's volleyball and with a new coach football is much improved. Was very unhappy with one seasoned freshmen english teacher - did not come prepared for class even though they have been teaching 25 years. One bad apple in an otherwise outstanding barrel. My middle child had the best Spanish teacher on the planet. My oldest child just started college - his preparation was adequate and he now realizes he wasted some opportunities in high school but he is making up for lost ground rapidly in college. Overall they gave him enough of a foundation in spite of his formerly lazy ways.
9/28/2003parentThe school seems good overall but after my children entered college I feel that the high school did not really prepare them for college.
