| Something for everyone - 7/12/2022
I live in a suburb right outside of Cleveland. I fear Cleveland gets a bad wrap in many people eyes. Although many families moved to the area for steel and auto manufacturing work and many of the industries have closed or reduce the amount locations hence reducing the amount of jobs, I feel the city has a lot to offer. People are overall more friendly that other Cities and States I’ve lived in and the are a lot of nice restaurants downtown. The surrounding suburbs have a lot to offer as well. Not to mentions the best assets…. Lake Erie! The weather id beautiful in the summer. The season change is amazing in the fall. I would recommend doing some research and plan before you come. There is something for everyone here!

| Cleveland is coming alive AGAIN - 12/19/2021
I relocated to Cleveland 8 months ago from south of Columbus, OH. Having spent a lot of time in Columbus and central Ohio, I wanted to change. So I spontaneously decided to up and move to Cleveland. Got a 1 bedroom apartment for a pretty damn good rate compared to most cities and what you'd pay for a decent 1 bedroom place. So there's that.... rent is definitely affordable. Move to Boston and expect to pay more than triple what you'd pay in Cleveland. The city has its disadvantages but its advantages topple it. It is coming up so much in recent years that its downtown area is alive again and has a nightlife once again. Summer was ALIVE in downtown CLE this year. Tons of music events, festivals, museums, you've got the lake and all the events that line it. The city by 2030 is going to make a huge turnaround. I believe its population will bottom out by then and start growing again. New leaders, a new mayor, many new officials taking charge in the past year or 2. This should make for improvement in local crime, funding, city schools, etc. I expect Cleveland will be a destination city by 2030. It already is in many regards. Take a chance by visiting the area... I guarantee you will like it.

| A great city that doesn't know how great it is. - 12/14/2021
Lived in Cleveland for 10 years. Loved it. Of course it has its issues, but there are a lot of great things about this city, and the people that live there should realize how cool a place it is. We unfortunately moved away in 2018 for job relocation. I would move back in a heartbeat. We talk about it all the time, so hopefully one day soon we will return.

| Miserable city - 7/3/2021
I live in Cleveland for 7 long miserable years. I have lived in many cities and towns across the US and I can truthfully say that Cleveland is the only city where I got extremely depressed. Cloudy, cold and either rain or snow most of the time. The city is dismal to say the least. Crime runs rampant, you just don't feel comfortable in any part of the city. Roads are in deplorable shape. Racism is rampant, jobs are few and far between. Their transit system sucks at best. If you are thinking about moving here, just don't do it!

| Awful city glad I'm gone! - 7/3/2021
I lived in Cleveland for many year and could not wait to get out of that nasty hole. Racist, bigotry, drugs and ignorant people abound. The city is full of slums, deteriorating buildings and roads. Crime is rampant no matter what part of the city you live in. It was considered the mistake on the lake in the 70's and the 80's and it still is!! No wonder this city is still losing population.

| Family -oriented city - 6/17/2021
I am new to Cleveland and this is my impression .
Although Cleveland is a medium city is still have a suburban feel . It is very spread out with unnecessary 50s highways that run through it , which creates pollution, noise and cut the city on half. On the bright side there is not a lot of traffic , even on the rush hour. If you move here from a small town , you will be shocked by the amount of littering everywhere . If you come from a big city , you might find Cleveland not very exciting.
The Bad; Yes , it is industrial and the rotting away building are an eye sore and makes the city look depressing. Wages and job opportunities are nothing to write books about and at this point this is not even unique to Cleveland anymore.Roads are medieval in the city , but are somewhat okay on the outskirts. Wealth disparity is very apparent here. Public transportation is not very good ,expensive and barley covers most areas .There is crime here , everyday there is some murder story . Although, crime have slowed down, Country wide so I would take reporting on them with a grain of salt. Trash everywhere and some places are absolutely a dump.Things that you need to consider before moving your family here ; Lead , air quality and schools (lots of private schools here).
The Good ; Plenty of things to do . Parks , museums, theaters , great libraries , good food, Breweries. The city offers a little bit of everything, while being an affordable place to live. Neighborhoods are distinct and have a different feel to them. People are friendly, laid back and straight forward , without coming off as fake or rude. We have a lot of historic building , if you hate the cookie cutter cities with tacky , flashy , new building. This is the place for you .Cleveland is a liberal city, without being vocal about it . 1 Hour drive outside the city and you will notice. This is a weird city , but they don't advertise like Portland does.

| Review on Cleveland Ohio - 6/2/2021
I have grow up in Cleveland lived in Cleveland Oh my whole life and can't warn anyone enough about this place east and west its all the same. Unfortunately corruption along with gangs and drugs have completely took over . Schools puplic schools are not safe at all for any child thats not thug life. Housing is cheap to investors but every non affordable to anyone with regular employment. Downtown is used to bring money to the city and stay inside Downtown leaving neighborhoods to basically deplored even more. Also let's not forget the juveniles car jackers that the judges allow to go free even after the shoot the blocks up and steal groceries. And with all the crime here if your a victim be prepared to be victimized for months and years before you even get any closure here in Cleveland Ohio . Business owners will likely be killed or vandalized to make a buck because lord knows if police do what they are paid to do its a race riot. All surrounding suburbs are at risk and often prey to drug dealers and thiefs from Cleveland that do dirt in the burbs then run to Cleveland due to the no chase policy . In Cleveland ohio we have the famous Cleveland Clinic in 1 of the poorest areas thats known around the world for specialized health care but is far from the best health care thats 4sure its more like a experimental facility number 1 for acting. Does nothing more but buy up more hospitals and make them look fancy , with that being said if your a employee there your pretty much living in a brand new built high-rise or off in a nice cozy suburb with no worries other than how you will sleep for turning a blind eye to what really goes on inside those fancy white locked units ! Sports teams are ok but glorified and over priced and before to watch out for the loud mouths that ruin everything for anyone with respect and whats called common curiosity. If you have small children also beware in regular neighborhoods here in cleveland your basically surrounded by projects that allow people to do absolutely nothing free of charge no criminal background checks children that commit robbery murders rape then get up on youtube and make music videos and promote it . If your lucky enough to live in a neighborhood a block away its most likely a breeding ground for child molesters who use street names and lie about where they live. All my years here in Cleveland Ohio this is all I have witnessed. It sucks in all areas some are beautiful but the people here ruin it sadly no justice no respect no morals everyone's your friend with a motive or should I say majority it don't matter how much you stay to yourself education race if your walking out your home for any reason your taking a chance a huge risk nothing is safe here at all for every good 1 person there is 1000 bad ones just waiting for you to slip up sad but true . And for those who have just got here give it time but at least I took the time out to give a warning to anyone that aware . Cleveland is not the place for normal people who just want a normal life !

| Cleveland is a hidden gem - 5/6/2021
I am originally from New Jersey. lived in Pittsburgh for 10 years and have now lived in Cleveland for about 10. I feel like I can give a pretty good comparison of both cities.
While in Pittsburgh I lived all over the city; in Squirrel Hill, Shadyside, South Side and then out in Monroeville. I worked in downtown Pittsburgh and the Strip District for several years. While in Cleveland I have lived in Ohio City, Strongsville, Independence, Chagrin Falls and now in Lakewood.
There are a few similarities between the cities, but just a few. The cities have their own personalities and dialects. Pittsburgh says it is midwest, but it is not. Cleveland is. Both cities are crazy about their sports teams. Pittsburgh I find is more rabid about the Steelers and Pens than Cleveland is about the Browns or Indians or Cavs. But then again Pittsburgh has won a lot of championships, so I get it, sort of. But in Pittsburgh it seems there is just too much talk of sports. I'm not a huge sports fan, so it became really annoying to me.
Outdoors. The Metro park surrounding Cleveland is amazing. Nothing like it in Pittsburgh. A few parks like Shenley and North Park, but no massive metro park like Cleveland. It's stunning really. But I did see more activity on the rivers surrounding Pittsburgh. Lots of rowers and boaters. Cleveland has the lake, but I don't know too many people with boats. But lake front homes near Cleveland are really gorgeous and you can feel like you are at the ocean. Downtown living seems to be more active in Pittsburgh if you include Lawrenceville. That's kind of downtown living. But then again if you include Tremont and Ohio City in Cleveland, then Cleveland seems to have more downtown livers. Young new explosive business goes to Pittsburgh at this point in 2021. Amazing growth has happened in Pittsburgh with Google and others. With the help of Carnegie Mellon, it is red hot in the Steel City. But Cleveland may be catching up. Slowly but surely. It will take some new leadership with vision but it could happen. The Cleveland Clinic is a massive glowing gem in Cleveland and I see them starting to dump money into new business. If you are in the medical field, Cleveland is your spot. Come now. But with so much new business and housing development in Pittsburgh there comes a downside; expensive rents and homes and bad traffic. Pittsburgh housing pricing is through the roof right now. Cleveland is a cheaper place to live overall. Traffic is also better getting in and around Cleveland. Safety? I think Pittsburgh feels like a safer town. That said, I've been in Cleveland for 10 years and have zero issues downtown. Some surrounding areas may be sketchy, you just learn to stay out of certain areas late at night. That's true with most cities. People are great in both cities. Just salt of the earth wonderful hard working people in both Pittsburgh and Cleveland. I can't speak on dating, I've been married for too long. The arts? I think pretty close, but I do see a ton of music and art happening in Cleveland. Before Covid hit, I was going to art shows weekly. I have two friends who are artists and they both have beautiful big art studios. There seems to be big support for art makers in Cleveland. If I were a visual artist in New York City, I'd consider moving to Cleveland. I'm sure the same is happening in Pittsburgh, but with rents being so high, not sure any art spaces or music rehearsal spaces in old buildings exist in Pittsburgh any longer. Surrounding suburbs. I think the nod goes to Cleveland. Most of the small suburbs and towns surrounding Cleveland are beautiful and safe and some pretty cool. Chagrin Fall is cute and quaint, Rocky River is great, Independence close and great. One of the best suburb towns near Cleveland is Lakewood. I live there now and love it. Lots of shops, bars, restaurants and affordable housing. Once you get out of Pittsburgh, some of the suburbs lose all character in my opinion. Mt Lebanon is nice, but pricey and a bit snobby. Squirrel Hill I liked, but expensive and congested at times. Mt Washington above the city is cool, but again pricey and congested.
Cleveland is also a much more diverse city. A really good thing.
So after spending much time in both cities, I do prefer Cleveland at this point. Not by a land slide, but enough. Besides some bad winter action, it is a great place to live and super affordable. If I were starting a new business venture, I would seriously consider moving it to Cleveland. This is a city on the rise.

| No place like Home - 11/16/2019
I've lived in Clevland all my life. 40 years and I have only lived on the east side of Cleveland. From St.Clair 105th to St. Clair E185th st. I live near where most of the crime takes place. Because of God's grace, my family and I have not been a victim of any crime or have never witnessed it. I love the Collinwood area the most. We have a brand new rec center a beautiful library and close neighborhood stores. when I am unable to drive everything is so close that I can walk. The school systems are not too bad as long as you put your child in a charter school. we do have great arts like broadway shows, sports, museums, animal farms, live concerts in the summer at the beach. I live near Euclid beach and I too couldn't stand the filth. They have cleaned and remodeled our beach as well. They have live concerts for free every Friday in the summer months. And it's very peaceful to just take a walk on the beach. I used to hate Cleveland because of the winter but I've been down south and all around and I realize there is no place like home.

| Cleveland isn't so bad, at least it's not Detroit. - 10/19/2019
I grew up in the Suburban Detroit area, and relocated to Cleveland after college. I have now lived here for 25 years!
I have seen many positive changes to my city in 25 years, the most exciting thing for me personally is the tremendous support of the arts, and artists in Cleveland. We have the 2nd highest # in USA of operational theaters (only NYC tops us). We have an annual International Film festival, and a film culture that makes CLE a popular place for Hollywood to film on location. There are large competitive grants available for creative types, as well as non-profit collaborative studio spaces. In summer months, you can find a free outdoor music concert somewhere in town almost every day if the week.
Another positive experience I have had in Cleveland is how generally friendly people in town are to one an other as neighbors, or visitors from out of town. There is not much racism in Cleveland, generally, and suburbs both East and West side of City are racially blended.
The cost of living is low, allowing a higher standard of living for more people. We also enjoy world class health care facilities thanks to the Cleveland Clinic, and Case Western Reserve University Medical School.
Negative things I've experienced in Cleveland are corruption in the police department, and criminal justice system. A large homeless population, and some higher crime areas within the city, or close by in some "inner ring" suburbs. It is unwise to leave valuables in vehicles, especially if they are visible. Thieves have been known to break windows to steal loose change left in the driver's console.
The Lake Erie beaches have improved a lot over recent years. There was a time when the public beaches were very dirty, and didn't have lifeguards. Now the beach I used to avoid for safety reasons when I first moved here (Edgewater Beach inside the city limits) has been redeveloped into a wonderful, family friendly summertime destination!

| Cleveland- What a great Time! - 9/24/2019
Recently paid a 4 day, three night visit to Cleveland My body and I try to take in 3 to 4 games a year at different baseball stadiums so we can check out every venue. This one turned into taking the wives. You hear all the jokes about Cleveland but we had a throughly enjoyable time. We stayed a the Hyatt at the Arcade downtown which put us in walking distance to Progressive Field, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and First Energy Stadium. Saturday night we took in the Phillies-Indians game. What a beautiful ballpark. The sightlines were great and over the centerfield fence was a great view of the center city skyline. On Sunday we took a visit to

| About winter and summer--adding to my other review - 8/5/2019
I just want to add something to my review about winter (and summer) in Cleveland. More of a correction. A lot of these reviews, including the one I wrote earlier, make it sound like Cleveland is the only place in the world where there is winter, and it is horrendous. It is not. It is winter much like it is winter anywhere else in about 1/3 of the US--it is cold, it is long, and it is dreary. Winter in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Chicago is colder and longer. Winter in Rochester, NY is also colder and much windier. Winter in most of Pennsylvania (I lived there and experienced it) is wetter and more icy with much less snow. Cleveland winters are cloudier than most other places, but not as cold and not as long as most other places either. Temps are usually in the 20s and 30s, maybe up to two weeks in the teens and single digits, or maybe not at all. In some parts of the country, temps in the teens and single digits is the norm, but not in Cleveland.
There is always snow--sometimes a lot, sometimes not so much--extreme snowfall is not the norm (unlike other parts of the country). Yes, it can be icy and slushy and messy, but so it is in most other states that experience winter. It is cloudy, but that too is not unique to Cleveland. It is long, but not nearly as long as in some other states. So, yeah, there is winter here and it gets old around March, but it gets old in New York City about that time too, and Buffalo, and Detroit, and Chicago, and well, you get the drift, pun intended.
As far as summer goes, yes, it gets hot and humid--for a couple of weeks. I lived in southeastern PA for a while and it was hot and humid THE ENTIRE SUMMER--ugh. Really hot and humid is an anomaly and not the norm. Summer and fall is actually pretty pleasant, esp, in comparison to other parts of the US.
So, winter in Cleveland is winter like everywhere else there is winter, but cloudier. That about sums it up.

| The unbelievable park system--rarely mentioned - 8/3/2019
I grew up here and there is good and bad, just like any place. This review is not for the city of Cleveland proper, but for the whole area. First thing to keep in mind is that the landscape and "cityscape" varies WIDELY. The inner urban areas are depressing and tired, but there is revitalization. Some of the suburbs like Parma, Brookpark and neighboring areas are fairly nondescript--but typical of most large cities. Going east, the beginning of the Allegheny Plateau brings hills and a welcome relief from the flatness of the west side. The far east area would remind anyone of the horse country in England and it is beautiful. The far west area going into Lorain County is the beginning of soybean and corn land and is flat and boring. There are only a couple of towns that have real town centers with a small town feel--Bay Village, Berea, Chagrin Falls, Lakewood, and Chardon (which is actually in Geauga County). The others just feel like undefined "areas" with neighborhoods and shopping areas. Downtown Cleveland is on the upswing with lots to do and a great theater district. That said, it does have an industrial feel and there is unfortunately little access to Lake Erie since a highway cuts between the city and the lake. That may change in the future. So that's the overall lay of the land.
So here's the good news--Cleveland has the absolutely best park system in the United States. The Cleveland Metroparks is HUGE HUGE HUGE and literally encircles the greater Cleveland area. Probably 80% of households are just a step away from the park system, and it literally feels like stepping into wilderness. We live in Berea and the park/river run right through the middle of our town. We put the dogs in the car and in less than two minutes we unloading and going for our walk. The park system consists mostly of a deep river valley, which is why we say here "we're going down the park". There are bike clubs galore, nature centers, fishing and hiking and new mountain bike trails. And then the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is about a half hour drive from almost any point in the Cleveland area. The other big plus about Cleveland is housing--it is abundant and so affordable compared to other parts of the country. And there is a wide variety of charming, older homes with lots of character and plenty of '60s type not so charming homes. Plenty to choose from. And another big plus--the Cuyahoga County Public Library system cannot be beat. It is well funded with a branch in every town.
The downside to this area is the weather. Summers are inconsistent but count on anywhere from a week to four weeks of hot and humid weather (AC is definitely needed here). A lot of days are gorgeous with temps in the upper 70s and low 80s--but generally count on a hot summer with many humid days. There is usually a dry spell in midsummer. Often, thunderstorms roll in from the west to make things interesting. No real tornado worries here. Fall is usually beautiful and long, with gorgeous Indian Summer days well into the first part of November. In mid-December it's as though a switch is flipped and it is winter with snow and ice and wind. This goes on until mid-April (gradually decreasing of course). The worst news is that winters are VERY dreary. Cloudy, damp, icy, depressing. Oftentimes I can barely walk my dogs around the block because of the ice. It gets to everyone by the end of February, yet there are still over two months to go until things improve. And the snowfall is very inconsistent. We love to cross-country ski, and some years we ski a lot, some years a little, and some years not at all, like in 2018/19. Some years there is a lot of snow, some years very little. Sometimes it is too icy to ski or walk. In the snow belt on the north and eastern end of the Cleveland area, count on a LOT of snow; elsewhere it is variable. Spring is short, cool and often too wet. On June 1 another switch is flipped and it is immediately summer again. In summary, winter is bad but there are many beautiful days here too; it is a very green and diverse place with a lots of gorgeous mature trees; it is a top birding area since this is a flyway to Canada for migrating birds; and there are definitely four seasons and all the joy that brings to the senses. And the insects? Eh, nothing too bad, just some expected mosquitoes in late summer and early fall.
I won't get into the politics of the area or the schools--other people have commented on that for sure. But if parks, affordable housing and a great library system are important to you and you can put up with not so great weather, then this area cannot be beat. We have never seen any place in the country that has such an accessible and huge park system.

| Only Review You Need - 6/13/2019
I grew up in NE Ohio, moved to CA for 10 years, traveled all over and moved back.
The Good: Some reviewers here are a little harsh. There IS enough to do and lots entertainment options for a city this size. Lots of theaters, sports, museums, bars/restaurants, parks, events, Lake Erie, etc. The area is affordable. Traffic is not bad. Suburban public schools are good. It’s better than it used to be, it’s trying. You’ll actually meet (and probably like) your neighbors.
The Bad: The weather. There’s a persistent low grey cloud, feels like living under low ceilings. Winter is brutal. The area lacks economic vision and the economic engine is a 4 cylinder. You can get there but it probably won’t be exciting. These two factors combine to create a diminished idea of what’s possible. Kind of like the opposite of a can-do attitude. Politicians are particularly self serving and clueless.
So basically if you will have a good paying job and can hack the weather then it’s a solid 6.5 area to buy a house and raise kids. If you’re young and starting your career- move to a better/thriving city, get 4 roommates, sleep in a closet, eat ramen and work somewhere exciting where you’ll get meaningful experience.

| Believeland! - 5/6/2018
Though I live in near-by Akron, I identify with Cleveland. Hard-working town that has been hit with a lot of adversity. I think instead of constantly bashing Cleveland let's try to make it better. Be an innovator and think of ways to reawaken this city to it's full potential. It has a great arts, music, culinary, and sport scene. Cleveland is a city with character. It's not a transient town and a lot of townies really identify with and love Cleveland. I'm a Northeast Ohio lifer by choice! I see a great city that's going to get better with innovators leading the way. Let's make America smart again.

| The worst place in The United States - 3/23/2018
I worked in Cleveland as limo driver who took people back and forth from the airport to downtown and the hospitals all day everyday. Most customers had only bad things to say about the city. Nine out of Ten would lock the doors once we got downtown or got to E.55th st to go to the hospitals. When we arrived downtown at night everyone would say" this place is freaking dead." I was always so embarrassed of the city. In the winter time the customers would all ask "what kind of city does not have roads" in reference to the pot hole problem. When asked what is there to do in Cleveland I would always respond " try not to make it home alive" or " stand at tower city and try and figure what on earth anyone is saying". I have driven all across America 3 times and Cleveland is by far the worst place I have ever been. The downtown is not safe I was robbed 3 times at gunpoint while minding my own business. The police and city are on a whole different level of corruption. They turn the traffic lights off during morning rush hour and extort motorists who don't know to treat the non working light as a 4 way stop. How is that in the interest of public safety? The people who live there are clueless as to what a crappy place it is. They are all obsessed with sports and very few other things to talk about. They get very defensive if anyone brings up a logical question as to why their city is the pits. After all what kind of moron lives in place that cold and that poor? The suburbs are all segregated if you are poor and black you live east and if you are middle class and white you live west. The property taxes are near the same rates as NYC and way more than any beach town other than California. The city has nothing to offer to justify these rates other than they are crooks and the people who live there are brain dead. It took me 2 weeks to buy a home in the suburbs and 4 years to sell the place after my seemingly nice town turned into a gang war when all the criminals moved from the inner city after the housing crash. It took them 2 years to figure out homes were cheap and they all moved in and the whole neighborhood turned into a section 8 3rd world country. I would never ever, ever, go back to visit this city for any reason. They worship Iron chef Michael Simon who owns most of the restaraunts downtown and they all are overpriced and the food sucks. These folks think they have some up and coming town but refuse to see the city for what is....Trash....
