| Great City - 2/19/2024
Great vacation spot with the best clubs and food. Wynwood and the Miami Design District are the best, just be careful at night. Area tends to jack prices up around certain times.. spring break, summertime etc. Lots of condos, and vacation homes to choose from.

| Filthy extension of Honduras and Guatemala - 9/11/2021
Miami is rapidly devolving into a filthy, crime ridden, unattractive extension of Central America and South America. The population is a bunch of rude entitled dependent indigenous amerindians who contribute much less than they consume. If you hoped to enjoy a prospering vibrant city, you will be disappointed. The weather and beaches are beautiful, but being around the people completely ruins that.

| RIP OLD MIAMI, IN MY MEMORY - 5/30/2021
Beautiful place, well into the late 20th Century ... clean, safe, fun, peaceful. Started seeing elements of crap, just a tiny bit, back around 1980. Now what changed since the turn of the century, I wonder ... yeah right. In the U.S.A. some things are forbidden to say publicly. Can't call it out, not permitted. Gotta dance around it like I'm trying to do in this post, which will probably get deleted or heavily edited. The window of opportunity in this country has shut to stop cultural decay. Many people know what changed in Miami over the past 20 -30 years, especially in the past decade or two, that has clearly turned Miami into a complete dump. Not allowed to say it or write it freely in America many things, of course, but what happened to Miami is the ugly truth nonetheless. Why write this now on this website? Another mass drive-by shooting, two within a day or so in Miami. All people need and deserve a place, a country; but every one of us also deserve to not have to live among people they do not want to live with in their community or country for any reason and in a democracy this should be protected as well.

| Miami is a Banana Republic. Avoid this $hithole. - 9/13/2020
I was born and raised in Miami and have lived here on and off for 45 years. Miami is $hithole in every sense of the word. Corrupt government and city officials. Rude people. Tons of traffic. Real estate market is INSANE. A tiny 2-3 bedroom house in a marginally decent neighborhood will cost you upwards of $450K. There are some good schools peppered into a sea of crappy schools. Nobody speaks English. I speak Spanish so it's not a big deal for me. But if you don't speak Spanish, good luck getting a job or getting help in a store. When I tell you that nobody speaks English, I'm serious.
It's a pretty racist city too. Someone mentioned that the city is segregated, and I would say that the neighborhoods definitely are. There are rich areas which are all rich white and Cuban families. Then there's a bunch of "middle class" neighborhoods which are predominantly hispanic (Cuban, Colombian, Venezuelan and Nicaraguan). These neighborhoods, while relatively safe, are devoid of any personality. They're all cookie cutter homes in the suburbs with crappy, inconsiderate neighbors. Then there's the black neighborhoods, which due to lack of funding, community involvement, or attention from city officials, are crime and drug ridden warzones. It's too bad because there are a lot of decent, hard working people in those neighborhoods who can't catch a break because the city has turned their back on them.
If you don't earn well over $100K a year, you will not like it here. You will have to live in the suburbs or the hood. Neither of which are desirable for the aforementioned reasons. It's also a very, very superficial city where everyone tries to act like their $hit doesn't stink. There are pockets of genuine, cool people here. But for the most part, the people SUCK!!!
You have been warned.

| Tropical Paradise with Top Urban Amenities - 8/29/2020
Great sexy, cosmopolitan, year-round warm weather waterfront city.
Moved here from San Diego and could not be happier with my choice...more exciting, sophisticated city with great restaurants, nightlife, shopping, walkable areas, best looking women in the country, convenient international hub airport for American Airlines and the world's largest cruise port nearby, nice weather, and no state income tax.
I live in Brickell, which happens to be the financial center of the city but also an upscale residential and commercial area that attracts highly successful and clean cut professionals. Modern and new construction and extremely walkable with all the conveniences and stores you need outside of a Target and Office Depot (though we do have Brickell City CentreMall and numerous other shops). Beautiful walk paths along Biscayne Bay and within close proximity to other cool neighborhoods such as Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne, Coral Gables, Little Havana, Wynwood, Design District, and South Beach.
Weather is an asset. Best weather in the country from November 1 - May 30 and the summers are tolerable, bordering on outright enjoyable, as we get breezes off the bay while tall buildings and trees provide shade.....far more bang for the buck in terms of real estate compared to other desirable coastal cities such as NYC, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
World class cultural events such as Art Basel, Ultra, Art Deco Weekend, International Boat Shows. Top chefs (Thomas Keller, Jose Andres, Jean-Georges) and top restaurants, some Michelin starred, from NYC, DC, Philadelphia, Europe and South America have a presence here.

| Pretty much what you'd expect - 8/11/2020
CULTURE
Miami is pretty much what you'd expect: party city, superficial and materialistic. Fake body parts are more common than real ones. Despite being a populous city, you'll find that the overall culture is pretty close-minded. I had a lot of coworkers who would say homophobic, racist, and sexist things very casually. People are overall rude and flaky.
PEOPLE
Most people in Miami were born there. You get a lot of NY transplants and a mildly international population, but mostly from Latin America, Russia, some European countries. People who move to Miami are usually attracted by the party culture, so don't be surprised if the people you meet are mostly into that. However, if you dig deep you will find pockets of more mindful people. But in general people are pretty superficial.
RENT/COST OF LIVING
It's pretty pricey, although not as expensive as NY or LA. I lived in a studio in Edgewater, a nice area, for $1,400. Salaries aren't commensurate to cost of living - most positions will pay lower than in other major cities. Parking is a bitch too, get ready to rack up $30+ per day in parking.
DRIVING
The traffic is pretty rough here. And drivers are very rude, constantly cutting you off.
SUMMARY
The beach and scenery is absolutely amazing. Weather is amazing. Culture and everything else - not so great. It can be fun if you're into partying, and my Spanish got really good. There are also a lot of cool, free events (before COVID) where I was always meeting new people. But not very intellectual or cultured.

| Not For Me - 7/13/2020
For the sake of this review, I'm referring to Miami, not Miami Beach (they are two completely different worlds).
The good:
- The weather is always warm, it doesn't snow and very rarely gets below 60 degrees.
- The beaches are pretty good. Not the best Florida has to offer, but it's up there.
- The nightlife is one of the best in the country (if you're into that).
- If you like Latin food, you will have a good variety and selection of places to eat.
The bad:
- It's not diverse. It's majority Hispanic (almost 80% of the population, 20% everybody else).
- It's very segregated. Whites live with and marry Whites, Blacks live with and marry Blacks, Hispanics live with and marry Hispanics. The tiny minority of people that are in interracial relationships face frequent stares from the public and pressure from their own community to 'date one of their people'.
- The people are rude, hostile and lack customer service. If you're expecting any level of southern hospitality, you won't find it here.
- Stress is an everyday way of life here. Everything is always GO GO GO, I need it NOW NOW NOW. You will see it at your job, on the road, at stores, etc.
- There is a notable income disparity in this city. People are either really rich, or extremely poor (most fall into the latter). There is very little middle room. The people driving all the expensive cars on the highway are borrowing the car from their abeulo's friend's cousin's rich investor husband, or taking out a second mortgage on their house to afford it. Keeping up with the Joneses is the norm in this city.
- The corruption is very bad. And by corruption, I don't just mean politics. The corruption extends to hiring, housing, HOA's, anything that requires voting or a subjective community-based effort.
- People are surprisingly very racist against Blacks. You would think a city with such a high population of Hispanics would have a low level of anti-Black racism, but the opposite is true. It's not covert "smile in your face then talk about you behind closed doors" either - it's blatant, unnecessarily hostile, prejudiced, in your face "that's just the way it is" racism.
- There is a strong culture of blue-collar, narrow-minded conservatism, unlike any of the major cities Miami is commonly compared to. It's not uncommon to walk into an upscale establishment where very little people speak English, yet country music is blasting on the speakers. A large percentage of the population work in trades, voted for Trump and have a hard-on for law enforcement.
- The people are largely unattractive (men and women). The hot and attractive people you see on movies and TV are from South Beach and do not represent the people in Miami proper. They are mostly overweight with beer bellies and muffin tops, and they look older than they actually are due to stress.
- I'm pretty sure most people know how bad the drivers are down here, so I won't even get into it. If you have any doubts about it, please take a trip down here and see it for yourself. It's very self-evident.

| Here's the Good and the Bad - 12/30/2019
I've lived in Miami and off for 20 years. Love the weather. I'm ok with hot & humid. I lived up north and I'm over cold winters. Living in Miami depends on where you live. There are sections, bubbles really of concentrated ethnicities. Ex: Hialeah is predominantly Cuban, Little Haiti is mostly Haitian, Doral is mostly Venezuelan, Central Miami Beach has an area that's all Argentinean, Opa Locka & Liberty City are mostly African Americans and so on etc... It's a melting pot of many Caribbean, Central & South American, Northerners, Europeans, people from everywhere really.
From my perspective, here's the bad:
1. IT IS EXPENSIVE! Housing is ridiculous! You might find one bedroom in a shared house for $900 a month, but almost any apartment is over $1300 a month and that's in not so great areas.
2. You NEED a car! Some people I know Uber to work but that gets expensive.
3. Some areas are NOT safe and I would not go anywhere near them at night. Just talk to a local and they'll tell you where not to go, I guess it's like any big city in that respect.
4. There are no seasons. It's just hot all year round. It can get chilly in the winter like 50 degrees but it never lasts long.
5. The pay for average jobs is not great & doesn't allow for high cost of living. You'll more than likely need a roommate to survive. Almost EVERYONE here has two or more jobs just to make ends meet. Unless you have a high paying job.
6. The traffic is INSANE! People drive here like they did in their countries, no rules, just the first one to get in, gets in. Rude drivers, crazy drivers, STUPID drivers! And don't even think about giving them the finger or trying to argue, that's a sure way to get killed. You will spend about an hour and a half each way to and from work in bumper to bumper traffic, unless you live close to work.
7. It's a Rat Race. It's a GO GO GO city. People don't stop. There's never enough time to slow down and just chill. Most people I know have school and full time jobs. People here work HARD! If you're not into that, you probably won't succeed here.
Ok now The good:
1. There are many job opportunities. You just have to look for them. Mostly here it's who you know- gets you in to a good job.
2. Beach weather almost year round! If you just want to get away from it all, just head to the beach or the Keys which are an hour away. Melt your cares away!
3. Culturally RICH! Most of my vacations have been staycations. There is SO much to do here. You will NEVER get bored! Like ever! There is ART, Music of every genre, Night life, clubs, theater, Museums, Historical sites, amusement parks, zoo's, outdoor activities, literally EVERYTHING!!!
4. It's family friendly. Look for good schools though. Public schools are just ok.
5. Universities and Colleges are everywhere, SO many opportunities to better yourself! People of all ages go to Colleges here. Easy to get scholarships.
6. People are welcoming and friendly! You can strike up a conversation with anyone! And they won't look at you weird.
7. Food is AMAZING! You can get anything anywhere, high end, home made, mom pop shops, large chains, anything! Any price range.
Overall it's good, just hate the traffic and how expressive it is to live here.
Hope that helps!

| Visit, vacation, don’t live here. - 10/20/2019
I was born in Miami and moved away when I was 27. I have spent time in the north east and now call the west coast home. I only ever occasionally go back to Miami because I still has family there. Otherwise I’d never go back. The first thing you’d notice when you arrive is the ungodly brutal heat that invaded every aspect of your life. Even at night when you think you’d get a break the soupy humidity creeps up your back and neck. A/C is your friend. Customer service whether I’d be retail or restaurant is usually just okay to painfully poor. Spanish for many is a first language and sometimes only language. As a Cuban/Argentinian I don’t mind. But I do mind when associates or waiters simply don’t speak any English. I don’t blame the employee, as the child of immigrants I know people may have just arrived and need work. I do blame the businesses for putting them at registers setting them up, often, for failure. If you’re not a Spanish speaker this may not be the city for you. Traffic can be terrible but that’s basically any major city at the wrong time of day. However, since the city developed from the beach first the highway system is often a messy experience. If you live in the suburbs, four to five lane highways often exit into two lane roads which leads to more frustration. Drivers are hyper aggressive. I’ve lived in other places and when I do return to Miami, there is a noticeable difference in attitudes on the roads. If you like the beach the water is often full of waves and very warm. Living on the west coast now, I do miss those temperatures. However, I don’t miss the struggle to get in and out of the beach. Again, because the city started there, parts of the beach consist of one lane roads and traffic again can be a disaster. There is a diversity of ethnic food which is great if you’re a foodie. Authentic Cuban food can be found most everywhere. The night life is really great even if it was never really my thing. Overall, vacation there, don’t live it lacks a lot of what makes other cities great.

| Great city NOT for people who are slackers. - 5/25/2019
I see a lot of people whining that Miami is expensive. Well it wouldnt be Miami if it was some cheap small town in Indiana or Wisconsin.
People come to Miami to be near the ocean and to live a beach lifestyle. I moved to Miami 4 years ago from a small town in another state. The first thing I noticed is that everyone is mostly from everywhere else so you dont have that annoying "what high school did you attend" cliquish" attitude. (No one cares where you are from) as opposed to other cities or towns that you have jocks and losers still hanging on to high school glory like Al Bundy.
When you move to Miami you are not judged by where you are from or your race, you are judged by how much effort you put into whatever it is that you do. I had gotten my MBA from out of state and when I moved here I started close to the bottom (as most do). It didnt take long to get promoted. Unlike other places I didnt get promoted because of "who I knew" or "who my parents were or werent" I got promoted because I demonstrated skill and proved my worth.
So overall Miami is good if you are a person who rises and falls on your own merits. On the other hand if you are the kind of lowlife who thinks that you will come to Miami and try to use "who your parents are" or "who you know" and think that you will get somewhere you are going to likely not last very long in a business environment and will ikely be fired then go back to where you came from whining about how Miami is horrible.
So the beauty of this city lies in its blue waters, tropical setting, unbeatable nightlife , beautiful women, and its business environment. the ONLY reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because the traffic is getting pretty sickening. Its out of control. If they can do somethig about that then its 5 star all the way. (not likely they ever will though)

| Unless you earn 6 figures, go elsewhere - 12/27/2018
I am born and raised in Miami, my family all live in Miami. Miami is a great city if you earn 100k/year and up. Then you will be able to have a nice home in a nice neighborhood, have a nice car, enjoy the beaches, boating, restaurants, lounges, clubs, concerts, sports games and outdoor activities. Miami is full of beautiful women who will give you lots of attention as soon as they see you can afford to do all these things. Now, IF YOU DON'T HAVE $$$ MIAMI SUCKS!!
You probably need to work 40 hrs/week to just make rent/mortgage and pay bills. Rent/mortgages prices here are EXPENSIVE! You need to live in a neighborhood out west because the homes are cheaper there, while all the jobs are east. So you will be stuck in at least a 45 min commute every day to work and back. THE DRIVERS IN MIAMI ARE HORRIBLE. Don't believe me, come visit! Statistically though, they are, just look it up. July-September the heat is horrible, your car feels like an oven, and you will arrive anywhere sweaty. Mosquito season coincides with rainy season, which is April-Oct, that's always fun. Everyone expects you to speak English, you are greeted in Spanish most places you go, and people are offended when you don't speak Spanish. Customer service is almost non-existent, prices for anything are exorbitant, you have to pay for parking almost everywhere you go, if you're lucky enough to even find parking. Basically, if you're an average person who has to work to pay Miami's extremely high cost of living you will use your free time for mostly chores and errands. Those errands will take FOREVER because you will be stuck in traffic and looking for parking, waiting in lines, etc. So that will leave you with barely any free time to enjoy the fun things about Miami like the beaches. Most working people don't ever go to the beach. So to work, be home watching TV and running errands you can do that someplace where the cost of living is much cheaper and you will have more money in your pocket. TRUST ME. If you're banking though, then yes Miami is the place to be

| Great Warm Weather Beach CITY - 10/17/2018
I moved here from Bland Diego after coming here for business..dramatic upgrade. If you desire a true warm weather CITY (not collection of beach towns) on the ocean then your only 2 choices are Miami and LA.
Miami is a sexy, cosmopolitan city with great restaurants, nightlife, best looking women in the country, nice ocean you can go in year round without a wetsuit, modern architecture, good hub airport with close proximity to many great domestic and international cities, all 4 pro sports represented, and very good weather.
Those who seem to complain about Miami most likely came here without jobs lined up, cannot support their standard of living, and/or live inland which means they do not get breezes and are stuck in traffic all day.

| Worst - 7/22/2016
What to said, I live here since 2013, I'm Cuban, but I have to said that I'm truly surprised for what we are doing with this city, We have to do something with the traffic and the insanely drivers who drive as they own way, the police department are not working on that way and of course all Latins who live here think they are in they own country, so, people, we are not living in Cuba,Venezuela,Mexico,Ecuador,Honduras,Nicaragua,Colombia, we are living in America now, we have to care about our city, we have to adapt and respect the law, I feel here that I'm not living in USA, but I feel this is the City more closer to USA :(

| Worst place in America - 5/16/2016
This has to be the absolute worst place to live in America. The climate is horrible, along with the majority of the people. I can't believe that I lived there for so long. I went from living in the worst city, to living in the best city in America. The best city being San Diego, with the best climate, and where the majority of the people are polite and friendly.I am currently in Miami visiting my mother, and I can't wait to return to civilization. You will be hard pressed to find anyone that speaks english in Miami. I here people bad mouth Mexicans a lot, but at least the Mexicans in California speak english and try to assimilate to the American way of life. Miami is actually an embarrassment to the United States. Miami is simply pathetic. I feel very sorry for the good people that live there.Good luck Miamians, because you really need it.

| Cheap home insurance - 3/16/2016
My wife and I actually just purchased a home in the Miami area for around $330,000 and the homeowners insurance was outrageous! It was almost $6,000, $5,700 to be exact. I searched everywhere and finally I found out you have to receive what is called a wind mitigation report and in this area it decreases the homeowners insurance by almost half! Which was nice! The company which helped me out was a Miami agency Unbeatable Insurance Agency www.miami-home-insurance.net which out of all the companies I called had the lowest rate and of course were very nice. If you guys are searching I told them I would recommend anyone who ask me. Hope this helps =)

| Miami way to high the price you may pay for living - 2/15/2015
Miami, or just any city from West Palm Beach all the way to Key Largo is expensive.
1. if you want to rent, prices are super higher, like if you want to live near downtown Miami, you are looking around $ 3000.00/monthly. If your budget is tight you must move all the way to Homestead where you can rent 2/2 for $950.00
2. Don't forget the tolls (all over Miami) if you live in Homestead and work in Miami, the commute isn't 25 mins... (I wish) is more like an hour and half almost two hours depending how early you leave, accidents, etc. (toll average ($120/month).
3. Auto Insurance, one of the most expensive cities. One full cover could ho up to $ 220 per 1 car.
Accidents on the freeway... 10every hour. People drive like crazy.
Groceries, well expensive compared to other cities.
And the rest well it mostly depends where you live, but a job for starters, let's say Walgreens $8/hr, or less.
English language almost none, everyone speaks spanish, too many Hispanics, not that botherbother me, but is tough place to rise a family if you are not wealthy.
If 65% goes on your place, 20% in your car insurance, gasoline, sunpass. 15 % in bills like cable, internet, phones, energy... left is only food, no time or.money for entertainment...Think about coming to Miami, is not worthy.
