Quality of Life: Disappearing - 5/27/2010
Phoenix would be great but there's too many rude, idiotic, selfish and trashy people. If this city was reserved for polite, intelligent, considerate types, it would be heaven, even with the hellish summers. I'd make plans to escape soon. And what's with the police?
I have a hard time giving the Phoenix PD an average review as they try to run a for-profit business on public coin. My biggest gripe is there's way too much noise pollution in this city: loud cars and insanely loud fart-can Harleys at all hours of the night. This is on 7th St, which was nice, and my current location, so it's not like I'm in a bad neighborhood. Also, the poor drivers and petty vandalism are out of control. All of this needs to get fixed

Serious Quality of Life Issues - 4/15/2010
I read some of these reviews and some people live sheltered lives. They either work part-time or are enjoying retirement. For a young person with goals and a future, Phoenix is disappointing. If you're not into tattoos, UFC, pitbulls, jacked-up pickup trucks, loud Harleys and heavy drinking, you'll have a hard time fitting in to the culture here as a young person.
It's too bad, Phoenix has some decent qualities but the bottom-ranked education can be seen everywhere. There's no leadership at any level. I'd expect the economy to under-perform in this economic recovery period compared to the US average. The housing market is such a large component of the economy that the hits from underwater mortgages, foreclosures and short sells have a staggering and far-reaching effect on the entire

The Phoenix Experience - 4/4/2010
Consider this story. There once were two travelers that, independetly of each other, were moving from the same city and moving to the same new one. The first traveler came upon an old man sitting underneath a tree just outside the new city. The first traveler asked the old man, "What is this city like?" "What was one like you are moving from?" asked the old man. "Oh," said the first traveler, "it's terrible. It's ugly, it's crime-infested, the people there are terrible drivers and extremely rude, and the weather is terrible. I couldn't wait to leave there." "Well," said the old man, "you'll find this city is exactly the same way." The second traveler came upon the old man also, and he asked the old man the very same question. The old man asked the second traveler what the city was like that he was moving from. "Oh,"said the second traveler, "it's great. It's beautiful, the people there are so friendly and nice, and the weather is wonderful. I really hate to leave it."

My City - 3/13/2010
I'm a native Phoenician (50+years) and have lived in Calif, Florida, Alabama, and visited many other cities. Although those were all nice places, none of them compare to Phoenix. The only real negative to Phoenix is the heat but that's really only horrible for 3 months the other 9 months are great AND...during those bad 3 months - you just stay in air conditioning or water and that's easy to do. Just like living in heavy snow areas - you survive by stockpiling fuel for fires and buy tools like snow blowers & remote car starters to survive the winters. The difference is - our 3 months vs those 4 to 6 months. We're an easy 6hr drive from the ocean in San Diego or Mexico and about the same to Las Vegas. We are within 2 to 4 hrs of great snow skiing. What's not to

Phoenix, AZ - A Great Place to Live. - 3/5/2010
I moved to the Phoenix metro area 36 years ago to get out of the winter cold and summer humidity. I have visited all but 2 states and lived in 10 of them and it would be difficult to coax me to any other state. The summers are hot, but that is about the only weather we get to complain about. On our worst day of the year you will find us at 9 p.m. sitting by our pool and complaining about how hot it was. Up north, on their worst day of the year they are trying to keep their pipes from freezing. Even in the heat of the summer, the humidity is usually low, often single digits, and the days are more comfortable than most 85 degree days in the midwest where I grew up. Arizona is a huge state, and once out of the Phoenix metro-area, there are many open roads and fabulously beautiful areas to explore. And now, due to the housing prices decreasing, homes are very affordable and interest rates are low. The Phoenix area has all of the major professional sports as well as major college

I've Been Loving it in Phoenix for 10 Years - 2/22/2010
I'm pretty surprised to read the bad reviews that I have about Phoenix on this website. I'm guessing that most people write when they have something to complain about but don't bother when they have something nice to say.
I'm originally from Northern Wisconsin and had lived in Michigan and Illinois prior to moving Phoenix. I have been to practically every major city in the United States and many outside of the US and I would not likely leave Phoenix.
For those that complain about the people here, I don't get it. Most people that I've met here are transplants from the Midwest. Maybe the problem is that they're new to the area and trying to fit in as much as you are but you don't realize it. If you give them attitude and aren't friendly to them, then they won't be friendly to you either. Same as everywhere else. I've nothing but good to say about the people here (straight, gay, old, and young).
As far as the weather goes, it gets quite hot

highly overrated and a bad place to live - 2/10/2010
I have been in Phoenix since 2005, when I moved from Michigan, and its one of the worst places I've lived. TERRIBLE education standards no higher than Dr. Suess that the lawmakers care nothing about. There seems to be a Wild West culture of lawlessness and disrespect and people doing whatever they want, even though violent crime is decreasing. The people are downright mean arrogant, passive and 'stand-offish.' The women are materialistic and shallow. The people dont know how to drive (dont know why as PHX is an easy city to drive in anywhere). A gang problem. An overly-riced housing market that doesnt reflect incomes in the area (but it has improved). Terrible foreclosure problem. Terrible air pollution in the summer. Oppressive heat. The water tastes like garbage and you have to drink botteled water. The sun quickly fades your car. Illegal immigrants everywhere, but they are returning as the jobs have left. NO JOBS IN ANYTHING (the highest job loss rate per-capita in the country) and
