Phoenix, Arizona is a bustling city known for its warm climate, desert landscape, and vibrant cultural scene. Another reviewer, Alex, added that "the cost of living may be slightly higher, but the job opportunities and salaries in Phoenix make it worth it." On the other hand, some reviewers expressed concerns about the cost of living. Missed opportunity - 6/23/2007
My wife and I moved here about two years ago. We did not do our "homework" before we moved here and we paid for it. We rented in a bad area of the city, luckily we only signed a six month lease. The housing market BOOMED and ended since we moved here and now the prices are too high as far as we are concerned. We have two young children and we want to live in a "safe" area of the city, but that is hard to find. The only reasonable priced homes are miles away from the city. The nice thing about the homes on the outside of the city is that they are newer, bad thing is that they are cheap and thin walled. If we had moved here ten years ago when home prices were reasonable, we might have stayed, but at this point we are ready to move again. Hopefully we can find a nice home and a safe place to raise our Read More

Phoenix Crime - 6/20/2007
This is as of June 2007. I'm a 15 year Phoenix resident and my opinion is that Phoenix's crime rate has gone thru the roof, specially violent crimes. Almost every morning on tv or radio there are news about multiple shootings, serial rapist strikes again (one of the many rapist) serial killer hits again (one of who knows how many). Also, bad drivers and road rage, it's crazy. Overall there's more of every type crime and getting more violent every Read More

arizona living - 6/13/2007
Have lived in Phoenix 5 years and have travelled extensively thoughout the state. I agree with many of the comments previously submitted. Phoenix is shot. It is on its way to being LA. Tucson is severely second rate. Other than immigrants overwheling Arizona services- especially in Tucson area, roads are VERY poor. The government allows an enormous amount of building without new, good roads. North of Phoenix the new 'city' of Anthem has plugged up the ONLY road north out of PHX. And now another 'Anthem' is being built south of Phoenix to block route from PHX to Tucson. IF you truly loved the great sunshine of Arizona do look at the Prescott Valley-Mayer-Dewy area near Prescott (Arizona's nicest town) but cheaper. This is the BEST sport in Arizona I have researched Read More

three words - where's the water? - 6/11/2007
All the problems stem from the idiots who decided to build a mini-LA in the middle of the Mohave Desert. Water issues will stop the growth shortly.
I strongly feel that the population has peeked now, and may even shrink a
bit after the real estate market works the trough out of its system.
The desert terrain is not built for draining, as there is no soil for absorption. Not built for growing crops of any kind. Not even particularly
kind to builders, as you hit rock immediately(when was the last basement you saw in a Phoenix residence)? It was sheer greed that made the developers want
to grow a city without the proper carrying capacity in the first-place, not to mention the valley bowl-shape that keeps pollution hovering 24/7, with
a consistency and look much like what I saw pouring out of the smokestacks
of the steel mills as a child on the southside of Chicago. Just a brown,
putrid haze, full of lovely heavy metal particulates just Read More

If god were to create hell on earth... - 6/11/2007

Phoenix worse than Detroit in poll - 6/11/2007
I think a great answer to those who wonder where Phoenix ranks per quality
of life should refer to Sperling's ranking of the best cities to live, where
it comes in at 273. Not only is this lower than Detroit, but it is lower than
any major metro area in the US. For one of our major cities to rank so low
on that list, which places it on the level with such godawful snakepits as
Gary, Indiana which came in just two places behind it at 273, as well as
Youngstown, Ohio; Bakersfield; Biloxi(post-hurricane); and Hattiesburg, Mississipi is a sin.. The greater Phoenix area was outranked by Detroit, Jersey City, Toledo, Cleveland, and Newark. Actually, Newark outranked Phoenix by 12 places. This is insane. This tells us that something went horribly wrong during the boom in population in Phoenix the last 15-20 years. It grew too fast, too unregulated, too all over the place, and it became one of the nastiest living environments in the US, not even talking Read More

Phoenix Climate - 6/9/2007
If you live in Phoenix, you might want to invest in a summer home up north or make frequent visits to Flagstaff during the summer. During the winter, however, Phoenix is amazing. In the deep of January you can still ride your bike Read More

Phoenix is a GREAT city! - 6/3/2007
To everyone that is writing a negitive review they must now live in an utopia because Phoenix is the closest you'll get! I am a native Phoenician, but I have lived/ have homes in many other places and Phoenix is by far the best. I have just returned frome my home in LA and when comparing these cities Phoenix cleans up. Phoenix is also a major city and with any city of its size you'll have crime period. So you're going to have this unless you move to Mountain Home, ID. The summers are NOT bad at all because Phoenix is designed around being inside in the summer. The only time you'll feel it is if you running outside in the middle of June and are you really going to do that? plus the winters more than make up for the summers. Phoenix is also a great sports city with major pro teams suns, coyotes, dbaccks, and cardinals. You also have Pac 10 member ASU in Tempe. Once you live here you realize the summers are a blessing because without them Phoenix would be Read More
