Sun Lovers Really Enjoy Phoenix - 4/9/2007
We lived in North Phoenix (on the border of Scottsdale) from 1997 to 2005 and we think it's a wonderful place to live. The city is clean with upscale architecture - very beautiful. The summer weather is CONSISTENTLY sunny and very hot and dry, perfect for swimming on a daily basis. We considered air-conditioning and a pool necessities. We have lived in Michigan, S. California, Texas and New Mexico. We read the posts for cities here and it seems like the people who complain are the folks who are low income and young, requiring a bar scene. They won't be satisfied anywhere b/c it's expensive to live everywhere these days, short of the economically depressed Midwest. In the winter, the weather is very similar to Southern California, perfect for hiking or just hanging outdoors. We are middle-aged and very active and we love the sunshine, so Phoenix was a great place to be. The climate became a backdrop for our lives, rather than our always needing to plan activities around something like

Phoenix Public Transportation - 4/6/2007
I moved to Arizona 15 years ago from Los Angeles and have never seen such a poor public transportation system. I know the build of the new Metro Rail might help, but, sitting in the 110+ heat at a bus stop for 30 minutes is kind of riduculous. Some of the bus stops don't even have a covering or even a seat to sit down. I've also had to walk 3 miles due to the buses don't got to North Glendale. The city tries to promote people to take public transportation, but, the wait is too long. Los Angeles buses ran every 10 minutes and I can go the 30 miles in just a little over an hour. I rode the bus in Los Angeles even though I had a car because I saved an hour on my commute by bus! Traffic was extremely heavy. I live in Arrowhead Ranch (North Glendale) and used to work in Tempe and had to leave my home at 3:45 AM to get to work by 7:00 AM. On the way home, I would leave at 3:30 PM and sometimes didn't get home until 9:00 PM due to the bus connections were missed due to one bus was

You Say you Are Looking to relocate to Phoenix - 4/5/2007
I think the reason why you hear so many people talking of relocating here is because they heard of people talking to relocate here. The reason people move here is because of all the talk but im going to tell you it is not all what you hear you dont get the bad part until you move here.We have been here 2 years from Dallas Tx, and we are planning our escape route right now.If you want to move to an area that is safe which i cant say what area that is because you have crime from South Phoenix all the way to Scottsdale not as much in Scottsdale but if you can afford to buy a very very very expensive house i would go to Scottsdale the crime is mostly domestic between married couples. The Southside of Phoenix is Mexico very very high Spanish population you may be looking for that as well but the crime is awful. We had to move 3 times because people were trying to break into our home every weekend and we lived in 3 to $400,000.00 homes so if the houseing is that high in the worst part of town

I grew up in Phoenix... - 3/30/2007
I grew up in Phoenix and have been back dozens of times. My father had severe arthritis and was advised by his doctor to move to the valley (Phoenix). His arthritis improved significantly and is attributed to the dry heat. And, yes, it is extremely hot. I remember picnic trips to the mountains, mountain bike trails and squishing a scorpion as it crawled next to me as i rested on a mountian. I remember the desert in bloom every spring, the Palo Verde trees and the beautiful drive from Flagstqaff to Phoenix. As you near the city you will see the giant saguaros become more and more plentiful. This sight is even more spectacular if accompanied by an Arizona sunset.
The history of this place is fascinating. The nearby Superstition Mountains have a history of their own. As a child I was in awe as we passed this mountain knowing that rumor has it, once you go deep into the mountains you are never seen again.
I left Phoenix when it was just under half a million

Looking to Relocate - 3/25/2007
My husband and I and our son, are looking to relocate to the Phx area. There seems to be so much negative stuff about this area, and i can't seem to grasp why everyone wants to move there if all you say is true. I mean, if it was really such a crappy place to be then why on earth have housing costs gone up so much? We are looking to relocate from Spokane, WA, where the winters are long, cold and wet. There aren't many job opportunities for a Software Development Project Manager, and OUR meth problem is so bad, that we have now made SUDAFED illegal in our state! We don't have a north/south freeway, only east/west, and it takes a minimum of 30 minutes to get to the north side of town. So all the things you are all complaining about, well lets just say, those things are anywhere! My personal attitude has always been, quit your complaining if your not willing to do anything to change it, ie-like move.
Now truthfully, where are the best areas to live down there. I have

The Truth About Phoenix - 3/24/2007
If you like Oklahoma City, Bakersfield or Salt Lake City this will not apply to you. However, if the excitement, culture and nightlife of Manhattan or San Francisco appeals to, then your experience in Phoenix will be something like this:
First Six Months: You will tell your friends in LA, SF and NYC that you "love it here, everything is less expensive, winters are gorgeous, etc."
Six Months - 1 Year: You begin to notice that 1)The pollution is worse than SF, LA or NYC 2) The "Dry Heat" during the summer is probably what killed the dinosaurs 3) A lot of people do crystal meth 4) The "city" is nothing more than an endless strip mall filled with F-150 pickups 5) A lot of your girlfriends have been stalked by crazy ex-boyfriends 6) That cute nice girl next door is really a stripper 7) When your friends back East ask about the Arizona Cardinals, you say "Who's that?"
1 Year - 1 1/2 years: 1) That horrible cough and lethargy you have is Valley Fever

Thinking of Leaving Phoenix - 3/23/2007
We are orginally from Indianapolis. About 5 yrs ago we decided to move to Las Vegas. That ended up not being a good idea. Well phoenix was the next closest climate so we moved here in Nov 2003. The price of housing has gone up considerably. The education is definitely not what it was in the midwest. The summers are HOT(Its a Dry heat though!!) the winters are nice. We are looking to move to somewhere that has better education system and lower cost of living. The median home price here is
