Phoenix metro is horrible, I'm moving out of Arizo - 8/10/2009
It's really a shame because Arizona is beautiful with the mountains, lakes and desert. I've come to a consensus in the last 6 years that the people here are either stupid, doped up or just a bunch of mooches. I'm originally from WI where everyone gets along (for the most part). Here everyone has an agenda, they are figuring out what they can get from you next. I haven't met one quality woman here in 6 years, they are either drugged up, have 3 kids from different guys or they are just plain trailer trash. If you choose to move here I would keep your guard up to make sure you don't get taken advantage of. The drivers are amongst the worst in the country. If someone screws up on the highway they flip you off??? I do not have any children but I have heard from many parents that the education system here is horrible. I think the drop out rate is almost 60% here now. And not to sound prejudice but the Hispanic population has pretty well taken over this area. I'm tired of ordering Read More

Cheap House and Sunshine served with Hate and Raci - 8/8/2009
Lived in Phoenix for 2 years but left.

Phoenix is a city that is rife with hate filled - flag waving racists who have a knee-jerk emotional reaction to people who are not white and have accents.

They seem scared and angry for some reason but are incapable of having a logical discussion of issues.

There are some conscious people though who are hell bent on bringing civilization to Phoenix.

If you are looking for a city where political discussion is filled with hate and racism . . . then Phoenix may be right for you. If cheap house and sun shineis all you want then Phoenix is also right for you.

But if your looking for a place that is open and welcoming go elsewhere. There is more to life that cheap house and a little sunshine.

What can you say about ...Phoenix!! - 8/5/2009
I concur. I am active duty military with southern roots and a european up bringing. I have never seen such a deep void of class and culture in all my worldly travels!! They can't drive here and rubber necking is a form "deer-in-the-headlights, window licking" sport. I work in the high schools almost daily and knew more by the fifth grade than most of these kids do as seniors!! And that includes "Snottsdale" Unified, I throw out common high school trivia and am stunned at the clueless look on the kids faces!! Image they get; having knowledge not so much. The social scene here is a trip as most women here have no clue of a real man. Games they love; having decency, not so much. Clue ladies: men are NOT supposed to be self-centered jerks with Range Rovers and a fat wallets or posers!! Be yourself and make it off your backs! Sorry, but I love to listen and people watch and Scottsdale keeps me entertained weekly. All in all the hiking and natural wonder of PHX isn't bad but the people ruin Read More

VERY DIVERSE STATE - 8/2/2009
Arizona, a very diverse state, has grown mega in the last 10+ years because it is so diverse. Summers are hot, but hot doesn't always mean humid, ie. 110 degrees and 110 percent humidity--not here. You learn to adjust your schedule, do early or do late or go from a/c to a/c and hire it done. Fall, winter and spring are the great season attractors for many visitors. Falls are cooler, winters are mildly cold, sometimes in the mid 20's at night, and spring, well it is beautiful. Mildly warm days and cool evenings. Mountains suround the "Valley of the Sun" as do lakes. We have snow for winter activities a couple hours drive or fishing activities with a short drive. Wheter you are active or sedentary, you can find something to do in the state of Read More

Small Version of L.A. - 7/27/2009
Generally speaking...if you like big cities and you like the desert, the Phoenix area is a pretty decent place to live.
With that being said, it's slowly but surely turning into the next L.A. Everything is very much car-dependent. A light-rail system recently opened, which is nice, but it needs to easily be 10 times its current size to be practical. The vast majority of the metropolitan area is good old fashioned urban sprawl at its finest. Which, in my opinion, is a bad thing. What's the point of living in a "big city" when it's extremely difficult to take advantage of the city Read More
