Conflicted - 8/23/2007
Though I've personally found the beginning of my true life here (began career, met/married wife, became more financially stable), I do not wish for me life to continue here much longer. The heat, the heat, the heat - you DON'T get used to it, it gets worse. Driving here is unbearable. Culture here is practically non-existent. This is a town in a city's clothing. Give me metropolitan sophistication and more interesting Read More

Phoenix is awesome - 8/2/2007
Phoenix, and every surrounding city, is just plain awesome if you like having heat stroke, enjoy being around thousands upon thousands of non English speaking ILLEGAL aliens, enjoy being greatly under paid, like high violent crime rates, enjoy overcrowded highways and city streets, enjoy living in extremely overpriced neighborhoods that all look exactly the same with gravel landscaping, like being around crack heads EVERYWHERE, like looking at the brown death landscape because it is sooo HOT and dry.

This city has gone down hill dramaticaly in the past 10 years. The main reason is all the illeagal aliens the state does NOTHING about even though they say they are doing everything they can.
I have no clue why more and more people move here each year??Read More

The quality of life is not bad in Phoenix AZ. - 7/31/2007
The quality of life depends on what you're looking for. The cost of living is a little above the national average but there are plenty of jobs and a growing economy in Phoenix. There are lots of recreational activities and shopping galore. Schools are lacking behind in basic structure and supplies but there is a strong effort to persuade highly qualified teachers into the area. The small town feel is definitely not present in one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. The atmosphere is somewhat disconnected as everyone is from someplace else. Traffic is a problem with minute by minute reports on where the accidents are and what area of town to avoid. Crime is often violent and devastating. Welcome to the big Read More

Hotter in Phoenix than in the Sahara desert - 7/23/2007
Who thought it would be a good idea to build a city in the middle of one of the hottest places on earth? And why did so many people think it would be such a good idea to move there? With miserable weather from May to October (with some temperatures getting up to 115 degrees in the middle), it is hotter in the Phoenix area than in the Sahara desert. Honestly. If you don't believe me look it up.

Some summertime nighttime temperatures don't get below 90 degrees. That's right, at 3am it's still 90! Forget going outside for a Read More

Phoenix--Paradise Lost - 7/15/2007
Over the past 20 years, the greater Phoenix metropolitan area has gradually lost a lot of its earlier quality of life attractiveness. It, unfortunately, has followed in the footsteps of many other major american cities: Traffic gridlock, rapidly escalating property costs, ever-worsening air quality, and increasingly hotter average summer temperatures due to the "heat island" effect.

My wife and I are looking forward to our upcoming relocation to Florence, Alabama for our retirement. A slower pace of life, small town friendliness, a lower cost of living, and a beautiful natural setting of forests, lakes and rivers are the main reasons why we will be resettling in northwestern Read More

Beautiful Phoenix - 7/9/2007
The ideal place is only ideal part of the time. Phoenix has the finest climate in Fall, Winter, and Spring. Summer is way too hot but not many mosquitoes. I spent 30 years in retail sales here and found the people to be wonderful. Our Statewide crime is high statistically but I think we record it all and not try to hide it. Lots of high quality Churches like Calvary Community Church. Lots of nice coffee places. Make sure you get a pool here. My kids wear flip flops all year round, are well adjusted and well educated. We came from Maine 30 years ago. Wouldn't trade Phoenix for the while State of Maine. Phil Gordon is a terrific Mayor who listens to the people. North Central Phoenix can't be beat. Phoenix sucks! - 7/6/2007
I have lived in several U.S. cities, which have all had their pluses and minuses. The Phoenix area is, by far, the worst city to live in. It is very dusty and dirty, overcrowded and terribly hot. The average I.Q. of the residents has to be under 100. Contractors never keep appointments; and when they do, half the time they do a poor job. Houses are not selling because many were bought by investors that don't even live here, and many residents cannot afford the subprime loans they took out. City services such as police and fire are seriously lacking. The average wait time in an emergency room is well over 6 hours because all the illegal aliens use it as their primary physician. Traffic is a nightmare. Drivers here are crazy and serious accidents occur routinely. 40% or more of the all drivers here are uninsured. People in Scottsdale (Snottsdale) are full of themselves. Culture? Fuhgettaboutit. Not happening here. There is very little public transportation. Many of the people working Read More

Phoenix is beautifully ugly - 7/6/2007
Phoenix itself is basically an ugly overgrown 50's suburb, but the setting is beautiful beyond belief if you like desert and mountains. It really does make a difference that it's a dry heat, but not much of one once it gets over 107 or so.

It's a great city if you are either retired or have a family (if you can afford to put the kids in private school, or to drive to a decent charter school), but not so much if you're single. Most of the recreation available centers around bars and clubs or sporting events in air-conditioned stadiums.

I don't regret having moved here, but I'm looking to leave Read More

where's the water -reply - 6/29/2007
Arizona has better water rights from the Colorado river than other states, primarily California. The Phoenix metro area at one time was predominantly citrus groves and cotton fields. While water usage and water rights is a critical issue for everyone wherever they reside, the fact remains that people use less water per acre than cotton fields and orange groves. As the Phoenix area has become more populus and less agrarian water usage has actually declined prompting states such as California and Colorado to attempt to buy water rights from Read More
