Looking to Relocate

My husband and I and our son, are looking to relocate to the Phx area. There seems to be so much negative stuff about this area, and i can't seem to grasp why everyone wants to move there if all you say is true. I mean, if it was really such a crappy place to be then why on earth have housing costs gone up so much? We are looking to relocate from Spokane, WA, where the winters are long, cold and wet. There aren't many job opportunities for a Software Development Project Manager, and OUR meth problem is so bad, that we have now made SUDAFED illegal in our state! We don't have a north/south freeway, only east/west, and it takes a minimum of 30 minutes to get to the north side of town. So all the things you are all complaining about, well lets just say, those things are anywhere! My personal attitude has always been, quit your complaining if your not willing to do anything to change it, ie-like move.
Now truthfully, where are the best areas to live down there. I have to buy a home, and want to live in a clean/safe/quite area. Thanks for your help.
