Nothing here... for anyone. - 5/29/2019
No jobs, nothing to do for retirees, nothing to do for teens or children. If you are not connected to local families you will never be accepted. Before even considering moving here already have a job. So many people move here only to find they cannot get work that will pay more than min wage. Hospital is dreadful everyone drives over an hr to get better healthcare.
Crime rate is going sky high. Cost of living his very high due to zero Read More

Mena is a great place to raise a family - 9/4/2012
I grew up in Mena, AR and left there when I joined the Marine Corps. I never used drugs, most of the guys were active in sports and there were NO TEENS pregnant at the time I attended the high school from 93-97. There are plenty of activities such as hunting and fishing. I have traveled all over the U.S. and the world (13 countries) and I hope to move back there some day so my kids can grow up in a safe and wholesome environment compared to the many other places I have Read More

Best Retirement Small Town - 5/18/2009
I read with astonishment the only review of Mena Arkansas, and I must disaggree. I moved here in 2005 from crowded and congested Florida and have never regretted the decision. I have always loved southern ways and lifestyles (I was raised in Connecticut) and have always been an outdoor enthusiast, here I have both. The town is small and quaint and the people friendly and helpful. I have more friends here than I have ever made in any of the six states I have lived in. A "yankee transplant" or an urbanite unaccustomed to a southern town in the bible belt may have a hard time slowing down and accepting the differences, but I embrace them. I learned a lesson from my father-in-law. When he would speak of his time in the service during WW II, he said no matter where he went (both in Europe and the Pacific), a baker was still a baker who worked hard and loved his family and town. If you treat people here with sincerity and respect you will get the same. Do not try to change things to Read More

Horrible, hateful little place - 8/31/2007
I lived in Mena for 15 years while my kids attended school here. I hated every minute of it. We moved to this town thinking it was a safe place for the kids but it was quite the opposite. For kids, there are after school activities with the school (i.e. band, sports, etc.) but that's it. A very small percentage of the students were involved in these activities while the rest went home and got into trouble. There is a high percentage of juvenile delinquency as well as drug use among the 15-25 year old age group. The kids are so desperate and bored, they screw around - and I mean this literally, there is a high percentage of teen pregnancy and nearly half of the girls graduating from high school are married within a few years. People reading this will probably argue, most of those kids don't have a strong family life or Christ in their life. B.S., folks. Despite the high divorce rate, most kids are involved in some church activities but again, this is just a mask for dirty Read More
