CROWDED - 3/5/2010
Costa mesa has awesome shopping but is way too crowded and I have had 3 cars stolen in the past 5 years along with countless break-ins and theft. Expensive. Close to beaches and malls but takes forever to get anywhere due to such high volume of people and traffic Read More

Perfect Climate - 11/4/2009
Costa Mesa has a near perfect climate . . . plenty of sun but rarely over 100 degrees (our house doesn't even have AC). Nestled between Newport Beach and Huntington Beach in Orange County, living in Costa Mesa is almost like being on vacation 365 days a year. Negatives? Freeways can jam at rush hour. Housing, though more affordable than Newport Beach, can still be high. All in all a great place to Read More

Recent cross Traffic is killing freeways that sust - 10/1/2006
The two main freeways that feed Costa Mesa, the 405 and 55 are dying.

The 405 North from the 55 up to Fountain Valley is now congested more often than not. Even in the middle of the day on a weekend, or the early evening, or around before lunch on a weekday.

The silly massive carpool ramp project for the 55, and the new exits for the 405 did nothing to solve the crisis. It's not new construction in Costa Mesa that is the problem, it's the construction in places people travel to via Costa Mesa. There is tons of new construction in places that feed the 73 toll road. You cannot avoid the huge influx of traffic that dumps out into the 405/55 interchange from the 73 toll road.

Too many people - 8/19/2006
The quality of life in Costa Mesa has declined over the last 20 years. It now takes 20-30 minutes to drive 3 miles across town, it gets even worse in the summer months as people drive through our city to get to the beach. The population mix has changed and with it came gangs and "taggers" compared to when I first moved here in 1987. With this population shift came a lower standard of living with overcrowding of apartments/homes and "third world" cultures. We now have over crowded schools, hospitals and jails due largely to mass illegal Read More

Love it and Leaving it - 8/9/2006
Costa Mesa is a great little city right between Huntington Beach and Newport Beach - although, unlike either of those, it's freeway close. In 5-10 minutes you can be at the beach, South Coast Plaza, Fashion Island, OC swap meet(which means the Fair and Pacific Ampitheater); in 20 minutes you can be at Angel Staduim, the Pond, Disneyland, Mainplace Mall, The Block of Orange, Irvine Spectrum, Verizon Ampitheater. And with freeway access to anywhere it's great~ The 55 is in the heart of Costa Mesa and feeds into the 73, 405, 5 and the 91 so all of them are from 5-20 minutes away.
But sadly to say -all of those time frames were without traffic, which is rare. And with all the development on every spare corner, traffic is one of the biggest and most growing dowsides to living here, not to mention crowds and smog. It's really nice being local to everything - so nice that everybody and their neighbor seems to want to join us. There wont be a lick of land left soon. With EVERYTHING so Read More

I lived there for 34 years - 7/17/2006
I was born in Newport Beach and lived in Costa Mesa for 34 years. I watched as my little town was infested with illegals. The educataion dropped, there was more traffic, drugs and the housing and property taxes through the roof. I got tired of smog, no trees and sick of a 20 mile ride taking 2 hours by car in any direction. Yes, it's close to the polluted beaches, Disneyland and nightlife and entertainment, but that's not living. I sold and moved out-of-state and up north. Now I have many trees, lakes, parks and clean air. And I'm still near the beach, on a harbor in fact and every once in awhile I have deer walking through my backyard. In Costa Mesa. The only wildlife I ever saw was oopossum and sometimes the neighbors. If you want a good quality of life stay out of Read More

Housing Prices - 6/25/2006
While Costa Mesa, Ca is probably one of the best places I have ever lived, the cost of housing is very high. A nice 1 bed apartment with a pool, gym and tennis courts will run about $1,200/month. Houses run about $800,000 for a 4 bed 2 bath on about 0.12 Read More
