Keep searching, don't bother with Loma Linda. - 11/1/2019
We have only lived here for 7 months, I am already counting down the days until we can move. The air quality is awful, which as listed here could not possibly be accurate. It is either smoggy or smoke in the air from all the fires in the area. And on a clear day, when you can actually see the mountains, it stinks of diesel here. People are generally unfriendly. This is the ultimate pavement paradise, if you are into that sort of thing. Cost of living is ridiculous for what you get. Sure, the sun is out just about every single day but I would trade that in again for some occasional rain and air that doesn't feel so disgusting to breathe. Commutes are pretty riduculous, 12 minutes to get somewhere 2 miles away. I can't believe Loma Linda is considered a blue zone, it is like living in a dust bowl with trash along the roads everywhere. If you don't NEED to move here, don't bother. Oh! And medical care? Never have I seen a hospital completely over run and over populated. My daughter Read More

Meh! - 10/11/2014
Lived in Loma Linda for 5+ years. Have lived on East Coast, West Coast, 8 states and 2 countries, so this tiny town ain't my first relo rodeo. Overall, pretty anemic. The entire "city" is essentially a municipally incorporated extension of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Nearly all the city revolves around or is heavily linked to SDA (hmm, one-time mayor? Yes, church leader and faculty member at SDA Loma Linda University. Ditto for city council members & city employees.) Very little to do overall outside church-related social circles. Fledgling farmer's market and some nice parks with good walking/biking trails (eg Hulda Crooks park.) Statistically a very healthy place with good longevity: the SDA community to its credit is renown for healthy lifestyle and strong health outcome measure. Area has surprisingly expensive home prices for what you get. Nearby city of Redlands far better non-denominational choice with more culture & rec Read More

A place for education - 6/13/2010
I've lived in Loma Linda for one year now - originally from Staten Island, NY. Came for one final year of education at LLU. While I am moving on - some comments about being here;

Pros: The weather is great 9 months out of the year, although I do niss precipitation - rain is rare. Low crime. Unique in that there are oragne groves everywhere. You can get enjoy hiking/biking in the hills south of town. The Drayson Center is a nice athletic facitilty, despite it being closed early on Friday and all Sat. Good place to come for school/raise a family. Easy access to skiing, deser, LA, San Diego... all within two hours.

Cons: Hot in summer -- like mid 90's to 115. Not much to do in the immediate area. Arts and culture low. Tough place for singles.  Read More

A pretty good place to live... - 6/9/2008
Loma Linda is a quaint college town. As a previous poster said, this is a Seventh-Day Adventist community, but I see this as a positive rather than a negative. The people are nice and friendly and crime is minimal. There are lots of places to eat (that offer meat, no less!). I have lived and worked here for over ten years and I like the town.

The only caveat is the weather. It gets above 90 degrees often and the air quality is poor since the Inland Empire is a basin surrounded by mountains and with half a million people around with almost as many cars, the smog gets nasty. Then the wind blows the smog out but picks up all the pollen and dust, so allergy sufferers beware.

I have to move now (career change) but am having a hard time finding as nice and safe a community as Loma Read More

I hope you like vege-meat - 8/7/2007
For those that don't know Loma Linda is a University town, specifically an Adventist Medical/Dental/Nursing/Public Health University town. The majority of people here are either some sort of medical/allied health student, and elderly. There are 3 hospitals within a 2 mile radius. The town is Seventh Day Adventist, which means they worship of Saturdays. You will notice most of the towm shuts down at sundown friday evening and remains closed until Sunday. Mail is not even delivered on Saturdays; it comes Sunday afternoon. A principle belief in Adventism is Vegetarianism and Health. All of the fast food, and restaurants offer menus with veggie- meats or soy products and Every sunday you'll see about 1/3 of the town out walking/running or biking as the "loma linda lopers" which is 100's of community members strong,train Sundays @ 6am. Lastly Loma Linda is a DRY CITY. No restaurants are permitted if they sell alcohol, there are no bars and wine/beer may be purchased at the local Read More
