Quality of life & housing is awful - 10/9/2005
We own a home in a nice area in the San Fernando Valley. Our housing costs are $2700 per month!!! THis is riduculous. You basically need a household income of at least $150k to live here decently. AND it takes two people to do that. There are VERY few $150k jobs per year here - even owning your business and making that much is tough. EVerything is VERY expensive here. The housing costs go up by 20% a year and the salaries go up by 3-4%. I also predict a lot of foreclosures in about two-three years and the public schools are awful!
Don't move here. Visit for the great beaches (which almost no one can afford to live near), but for a good quality of life this isn't it. We are looking to move. Just trying to find the right place for

Housing is too damn expensive here! People buy luxury items they can't afford. The job market is too dependent on the housing industry. Incomes are not going up. I predict in a few years there will be MANY foreclosures and bankruptcies.
And if the schools weren't poorly performing already, they will suffer even worse soon. Also this state borrows money every year because the politicians (tax-happy dems and the minority repub budget terrorists) won't make the tough, but necessary decisions.
But other than that, Los Angeles is a nice place....to visit. Just feedback from a native Californian waiting to move out....for
