It is a highly desirable place to live, with a growing population and a strong economy. However, like any city, it also has its drawbacks. In order to gain a well-rounded perspective on what it's like to live in San Diego, we will summarize comments and reviews from various users on BestPlaces.net.

However, the cost of living can be high, especially when it comes to housing." This sentiment is echoed by Sarah, who states, "I love the laid-back vibe of San Diego and the beach lifestyle. But the traffic and high cost of living can be overwhelming at times." On the other hand, Mark shares a different perspective, saying, "San Diego is the perfect balance of city life and beach living. The job opportunities are abundant and the people are friendly. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else." Living in San Diego - 6/13/2010
I have lived in San Diego for 20 years and have wanted to move out of here since the day I moved in. The people are rude, empty suits and empty dresses. The only reason I stay is I own a business and property but that has not stopped me from looking to other places to live. The only thing this area has going for it is the Read More

San Diego is not walkable, nor friendly to bikes, - 6/4/2010
The view, in San Diego, is always wonderful. The weather is about as good as it gets, unless you're uncomfortable with a bit of humidity around July, August.

As I'm accustomed in living in cities with excellent transport and a traditional city grid, I have found the 6 1/2 years I have spent in San Diego to be extremely frustrating. Certainly, I can drive to the park or a beach and walk. But can I walk from one section to another section? No. That's because there are vallies with snakes and bush in them! That includes the middle of San Diego!

It is a wonderful outdoors place to live, because you can be outdoors every day of the year--that means you can go cycling, swimming, running, golfing all 12 months of the year. And if, during the winter, you want to go skiing, the slopes are only several hours away. During the hottest months of the year (Aug-Oct), it rarely is more than 80 Read More

Balboa Park - 2/27/2010
It's practically worth moving to San Diego for Balboa Park alone -- the museums, the zoo, the theaters... it's just a delightful place to while away day after day! And there really is something for everyone -- picnic with your family, take in a play with your sweetie, take your toddler to the puppet show at the puppet theater. I love this Read More

Great weather - 2/15/2010
Can't think of a better location for proximity to beach, mountains, desert, and lakes. Tons to do and see if you are the outdoors type. If you are an introvert who doesn't like being around people and needs a good deal of space to live in, you may find it overpriced, crowded etc. Have fun, Read More

Sure the weather is great all year long... - 2/5/2010
But it's just not worth it to our family anymore. We almost got a home invasion last night! Someone was going around our neighborhood trying to find unlocked houses to burglarize. Luckily I was able to lock all the doors and windows after I saw the door handle being grabbed before my very eyes. There were driving a car around and stopping at dark houses to try and do "quick runs." And the police can do nothing about it. I live in Mira Mesa, which is just north of the Miramar Air Base, just outside of San Diego. We have lived here for about 6 years now, first in an apartment, and now in a rental home. We cannot afford to purchase a house so we have to rent. At least we are now in a HOUSE instead of a dingy apartment which was costing us the same amount of money per month. The tax rate here in CA is abomibale. It's too expensive to live anywhere in So Cal anymore. Everyone in my family is looking to move out of state. My mother already has and she vacated to North Carolina. My sister is Read More
