Quality of life for the money - 10/10/2009
Yes, the cost of living is high. If you're considering relocation to San Diego consider what you pay for utilities compared to your ability to spend everyday enjoying the outdoors from the beach to the mountains. We pay a sunshine tax and in most cases, it's worth it. Every community has its flaws. Ben Franklin would make lists comparing the pros and cons of a decision. Look at the list of pros for living in San Diego compared to the cons. It is a manageable city despite the cost of living ie housing. My family has worked hard to be able to stay in San Diego and enjoy it's many benefits. It is truly one of our nation's finest

San Diego is so not where I want to be - 9/11/2009
I have been looking for a good place to live and San Diego was always number 1 as far as my wants and needs. But then I found this site and peoples opinions of the city. Now San Diego is so off my list. I'm from Memphis Tennessee so I know some crazy people when I see them. But you guys are too much. The ones that love San Diego defend it to the death saying how its so nice and blah blah blah. But as soon as someone says anything negative about the city you attack! All you're doing is proving them right. You keep saying how the people that dont like San Diego are close minded and yet you are so close minded yourself you cant even accept someone elses opinion if its different from your own. Its really sad cause I honestly dont think you guys even realize it. Its really not that serious. If you like it then stay, if you dont then move. Whats the big freakin deal with all this

Overall Quality of Life in San Diego - 9/6/2009
I have lived in San Diego county for a total of 18 years. Overall it is a great place to live. Since the housing prices are quite high, we have far less square feet of living area than we have had in other cities. However, due to the FANTASTIC climate, we spend more time outdoors and don't need a lot of room in the house. We now live in the city, about 3 miles from San Diego harbor and about 4 miles from the Pacific Ocean so we rarely need air conditioning and don't use the heater much in the winter(which keeps our utility bills very low). We have raised three children and found San Diego county to be a relatively good place to raise a family. There are some good schools, adequate cultural opportunities and a varied amount of natural resources for family activities. San Diego has a lot of civic pride and for the most part, people here keep the community clean and

The San Diego Deception - 8/17/2009
I am twenty-one years old and was born and raised in San Diego. I had a very memorable childhood here-from spending numerous summer days at the beach to actually being able to play baseball outside during the sunny, temperate winter days. Now that I am older and able to consciously evaluate my surroundings, the lure of the city has dissipated.
To do justice to the city, it does have extremely comfortable weather, as winter highs range from the upper fifities to low seventies and summer highs linger in the upper seventies to low eighties along the coast. As a result of the beautiful weather, people with the economical means from all over the world, let alone the country, have migrated to San Diego and such demand for housing synthesized with large economic disposal has, in time, squeezed the San Diego's middle class to Phoenix, Arizona. What remains is a highly stratified city-people either have money or they don't.
Stemming from the economical situation of San Diego

Been here 37 years but its time to leave - 7/21/2009
The year-round weather is better than anywhere I've ever been. It does get hot in the summer which always seems to last through October, and rain, if you like that, is minimal. The yearly average is around 10 inches but lately 5 or 6 seems the norm. However, the winters are great, some rain, clouds, but mostly sunny and warmish....70's. Lots of things to do here. Universities abound with appropriate cultural and scientific events. San Diego has a symphony, two operas, chamber music, etc, and the world famous zoo and Wild Animal Park. Beaches are there, so are the mountains and the desert.
Some bad stuff comes with all the good stuff. Lots of people, terrible traffic, crime but no worse than most large cities, a city government that often borders on felony incompetent, and traffic (did I say that again?). We've been here since 1972 (37 years if you do the math) and have seen too many changes. For us in retirement, its time to go but opportunities do abound for the

Housing - 7/1/2009
Housing prices have dropped dramatically in San Diego County in the last two years. However, entry level homes $200k - $400k are currently under significant upside pressure. Foreclosures, BO, and short sales are seeing 10 or more buyers often offering $100k over the listed price. Higher end homes are just starting to hit the foreclosure market as unemployment and under-employment continue to
