San Diego, California is a popular city located along the Pacific coast known for its sunny weather, beautiful beaches, and diverse culture. It is a highly desirable place to live, with a growing population and a strong economy. However, like any city, it also has its drawbacks. In order to gain a well-rounded perspective on what it's like to live in San Diego, we will summarize comments and reviews from various users on BestPlaces.net.

According to John from San Diego, "Living in San Diego has been a dream come true. The weather is perfect year-round and there's always something fun to do. However, the cost of living can be high, especially when it comes to housing." This sentiment is echoed by Sarah, who states, "I love the laid-back vibe of San Diego and the beach lifestyle. But the traffic and high cost of living can be overwhelming at times." On the other hand, Mark shares a different perspective, saying, "San Diego is the perfect balance of city life and beach living. The job opportunities are abundant and the people are friendly. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else." Pros and Cons - 1/30/2010
While one can't beat the climate of San Diego, and it definitely has much culture in the form of some great local and national theater and museums, my basic complaint is besides the obvious high cost of living in terms of high rent and housing costs, is the sense of isolation the area has. Coming from the Midwest I'm used to subdivisions, neighborhoods, friendly people in the post office and grocery stores, people waving cars in and smiling at each other. With a few isolated exceptions in certain suburb neighborhoods (again that are usually out-priced for young couples starting out), people tend to just get in their cars, roll up their windows and go about their own self-involved lives; or possibly go out to "be seen" and pay overpriced drinks down town or hang out in the beach towns with drunk college kids - it's hard to find and make friends in new areas in the condo/apartment Read More

Good and Bad - 1/30/2010
The weather is great and the recreation opportunities are incredible. The traffic is not onerous but the crowding is becoming so. The illegal immigration problem is slowly strangling the city, consuming more and more resources such that, despite steadily increasing taxes, the ability of the government to keep up the public facilities is decreasing and the quality of living is slowly Read More

Nice Weather is not worth what we pay to live here - 11/15/2009
San Diego is a beautiful city no doubt, however the nice weather, the culture, and a few remaining friendly people I see each day does not justify the moral bankruptcy local businesses have by charging such outrageous prices. I agree with Chris, San Diego is a great place to live if your a doctor or an engineer or other graduate and you can afford to pay the premium to live here. I for one am no longer able to live here and support my family and it is a real shame. I am not a high school drop out, or criminal I have a 4-year college degree and I've served my country for 15 years in the Marine Corps. I am unable to buy a home here and the rental properties all charge ungodly amounts each month. It is difficult for me to see so many people collecting unemployment benefits and other welfare assistance driving SUV's and fully loaded sports cars. These same people are the ones lining up for free handouts everyday. I wish you all the best of luck, and I will leave you with this Read More

No better than most cities, actually worse. - 11/8/2009
So the weather is great (unless you prefer seasons), and the surfing is good (unless you need warm water), but thats pretty much the end of anything good about San Diego. The cost of living is outrageous and nearly prohibitive if you have a family and need some space. Unless your one of the many ultra-affluents who bid up all the property prices buying vacation homes, you'll likely be tucked into a dense neighborhood where all the dogs, kids, and adults show clear signs of neurosis. Aggression and indifference are common. The way of life is mechanical and unprofound. Materialism, consumerism, and narcissism comprise the heart of the coastal region. The water, air, beaches, and soil are all polluted. The air pollution alone significantly increases the regions mortality. Light and noise pollution are also pervasive. Get ready to sleep with white noise to drown out the neighbors. Traffic is horrible. The views are of smog rather than nature. Nature has been paved over. Parks are Read More

Hey guys, I'm looking at moving out to San Diego from Neb. hopefully by this next Spring (if it works out).. I was online looking for apartments, and was wondering if you knew where I could find a good deal at an AFFORDABLE price?!

My budget for rent would prolly be no more than $750-800 a month TOPS! I'm looking for a studio apartment, preferably near the coast, but as far to that as is affordable...?

Beautiful - 10/23/2009
I lived in San Diego for a few years and loved it. It is a beautiful city with plenty to do. That was back when I was single and in my 20's. This is definitly a city for young people. If you have a family and children, the schools are horrible. I had to move out to the midwest to get the educational programs and attention that my children deserved. It is extremely expensive to live here so I suggest you have a well paying position before you make the move. Also, the job market right now is suffering badly and wages have been cut severely. Other than that, a great place to live. Lots to do, great climate, beautiful skyline, culture, and sense of community in most Read More

I'm just trying to find the best 'family friendly" suburb of San Diego.
