The Long, Great Run is Slowing Down - 9/30/2008
I grew up in San Diego, and have always loved many aspects of living here, not least the weather, the diversity of people, and the friendly nature. Over the past few years, there seem to be many issues, small to large, that make me consider leaving. Briefly: infrastructure is falling apart; city and county government at the least ineffective, if not tending towards the corrupt; residents who see San Diego as a "vacation" not a place to live, thus are not involved; water shortages; cost of living so high that even 6 figure incomes can't cut it; a once amazingly low crime rate that seems to be creeping upwards. Also, we seem to be unable to keep our beaches clean -- closings are frequent and serious. I hope that all of these issues will be dealt with, but with young children, and a relative lack of income, I may have to

Ready to go home!!!! - 9/25/2008
I have a very good friend who lives here in San Diego, and once a year I would come out from the east coast to visit her. We would always go to the beach, go to great places to eat etc. I always got such a good feeling when I came here, so I thought..why not move here? HUGE mistake!!! I have lived here now for about 4 months, and I hate it and want to move back. Yeah, the weather is great, but quite honestly I'm sick of it, I want some variety. I always look back on the memories of my life and they all have a "season". Here, there is never a season to remember something by, just "remember that day? It was sunny?" Yeah, I guess San Diego is great if you love to feel like you are in a foreign country everywhere you go, if you love to be paid for less than you are worth, love a horrible public school system, love to sit in traffic and deal with the rudest most horrible drivers you will ever encounter...then yeah San Diego is great. It is a nice place to visit, but San Diego has no

San Diego climate - 8/10/2008
I am sure the general impression most people have about Southern California is that it is sunny for most of the year. And San Diego is one of SoCal's most beautiful city. Blue skies abound for most part of the year, and the downtown San Diego skyline is comparable as far as beauty goes with that of Manhattan, albeit smaller.
My husband and I have lived in San Diego for five years now. For the past two years, the summers have considerably been hotter so much so that it's not fun playing tennis past 10 a.m. anymore, especially if you add humidity in the picture.
Overall, San Diego is a beautiful city, and people come and live her for the climate - for you get spoiled with an almost year-round sunny

Sky high cost of living - 8/10/2008
I have lived in SD for 42 years (came with my parents the summer before 7th grade-so I didn't have a choice back then). I've moved away a few times, but have returned because my family is still here.
The cost of living (compared to the rate of pay), as well as traffic has increased to the point where I am seriously looking at other places to live again.
SD has nice weather, but that has never been my reason for returning...I actually like a change of seasons, especially Autumn. It is just my family that keeps me here. My kids are now 19 (almost 20) and 21 (soon to be 22) and so moving is a bit more realistic. Although I will miss being able to see my 11 year old niece and 2 year old niece when I please.
As for people, I can say that I know a lot of people, but have found it much easier to make close friendships in the other places I've lived.... and I have lived in SD a long time! Maybe it is the transient nature of the place. Not

Retired Enlisted, can't afford to live here - 8/8/2008
All our family is here and we love San Diego but we don't want to live smack in the middle of gang central, which is the only type of place we can afford here. I don't understand why the cost of food is listed as elevated in San Diego though, a gallon of milk cost almost exactly twice as much in Virginia Beach, as does a loaf of bread, fruit, vegetables and

San Diego IMHO - 8/6/2008
I am here because of my husband's job. I would never live here if he wasn't in the military. As someone said, San Diego is like a theme park. Big, expensive, and fun. But, at some point you want to go home. I do enjoy the beaches, but they are nothing compared to the east coast beaches- I am just not into the big city, the traffic, Cali elitist attitude, the "we are the best" you get from some
