In order to gain a well-rounded perspective on what it's like to live in San Diego, we will summarize comments and reviews from various users on BestPlaces.net.

According to John from San Diego, "Living in San Diego has been a dream come true. The weather is perfect year-round and there's always something fun to do. However, the cost of living can be high, especially when it comes to housing." This sentiment is echoed by Sarah, who states, "I love the laid-back vibe of San Diego and the beach lifestyle. But the traffic and high cost of living can be overwhelming at times." On the other hand, Mark shares a different perspective, saying, "San Diego is the perfect balance of city life and beach living. The job opportunities are abundant and the people are friendly. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else." Lastly, Lisa adds, "I've lived in San Diego my whole life and it's definitely a special place. The only downside is the traffic and the influx of tourists in certain areas." Education - 8/19/2007
Generally, the schools are lacking in how much they spend on each student. Too many of the buildings need renovation or replacement. Class size is larger than stated in most statistics. The teacher morale has been very low for many years. Second language students comprise more than 50% in most inner city schools and their needs are not being met. The SD schools pay teachers above average salaries and the teachers are held to strict accountability regarding the state standards. Many schools do not meet the required Read More

SAN DIEGO - Myths and Legends - 8/13/2007
As a native San Diegan, allow me to clarify what you may have heard:

EXPENSIVE HOUSING - Yes. (And may I also say, Duh!)
TOO CROWDED - 1,000,000+ baby, and growing, and growing, and growing...
CONGESTED FREEWAYS - see above
HIGH TAXES - see above
TOUGH JOB COMPETITION - see above
BAD DRIVERS - Like they're better where you came from?
SNOBBY PEOPLE - No way! I offer wine to anyone who comes aboard my yatch.
LACK OF CULTURE - Well, think of it as a playground, not a city.
FUN - ocean, beaches, mountains, desert, Mexico. If you can't find something you like here, there's something WRONG with you!
WEATHER IS OVERRATED - Fine, whatever, so leave already.

To summarize, San Diego is like a theme-park: crowded, expensive, and fun.Read More

I was born and raised in SD and find myself becoming more and more disappointed. I can see what my future will most likley be like if I continue living here...stressful. I am curious as to where the people who moved away ended up? What are some suggestions for a 20 something female who isn't really into the city scene and likes more small town Read More

Cost of living pimps the residents here - 6/21/2007
Cost of living is high and affects the quality of life for most who live here. Even with the recent down turn in real estate prices, the current prices and stricter sub-prime lending rules are still making the American fream of home ownership unattainable. For many, working just to live in this city is the way. Leisure activities that make San Diego a prime tourist city are usually not anywhere near the top of the priority for residents. And then their is the traffic... For those who are aching to become homeowners, many have purchased homes in neighboring counties some 100 miles away or more. They then commute to their jobs in San Diego making the commute times ridiculous. No time for family or leisure activities because they must work and work and commute and work some Read More

Overall quality of life in San Diego ranks 9 out o - 5/21/2007
San Diegans are among the friendlist, warmest, most approachable people in the States. Most citizens are in a good mood about 85% of the time. Despite high real estate costs and poor air and water quality rankings by the EPA (unknown by most who live here), San Diegans are probably dependably mellow and outgoing due to the unrelenting sunshine with ocean breezes and a beautifully landscaped Read More

Love it - 5/18/2007
I am so sick of these posts about how California is so expensive. DUH! It's California! I moved to California from the Midwest and haven't regretted it for one minute. Yes, it's expensive, but I budget. I enjoy the coast, the variety of things to do, the great weather and much more. I will be in San Diego for the rest of my life. All those people who always complain about pricing, I'll say it again: you pay for what you Read More
