Crawling with drug addicts! - 7/1/2021
Rating 1 out of 5
This place is absolutely Crawling with meth and heroin addicts. They roam the streets, they constantly knock on your door asking for rides and money. The police do Nothing about it and there are no facilities or help for them. Some are very violent and will kick down your door or break your windows...while you are home! Stay away from this place, its a very disturbing and stressful place to Read More

A good place to retire and live like a hermit, but - 2/13/2015
If want to retire in a nice, quiet place where you can live in isolation, you have a steady stream of income from an outside source, you don't have anything valuable that can be easily stolen, you don't care about having access to cultural events, and you don't mind extremely cold winters, then Alamosa is perfect for you.

If, however, you have to work to make a living, want to start a business, or have grand ideas of coming in and transforming Alamosa into a "sustainable community", you are going to be very frustrated and disappointed.

JOBS

The only jobs are in

- healthcare
- government funded institutions (and therefore very hard to get)
- are in construction or ranching
- low-paying retail or restaurant.

San Luis Valley/Alamosa - 12/15/2007
Over the past 10 years we have visited Alamosa over the summers. We have seen the upgrade of the towns in the area and Alamosa is the most attractive it sports a lovely small downtown area that welcomes visitors in a warm, non-intrusive way. On our 2006 trip, We were pleasantly suprised to find the microbrewery which put us in mind of some of the microbrewerys in Pensacola, Fl. The wrap around mountain ranges are bonafide Colorado experiences, and the downtown walking area felt safe and caused us to linger at several shops to purchase gifts for folks back home in Florida & Kentucky. The shopping for grocery and supplies were easy in Alamosa. Also we are aware that several power companies are building and promoting solar & wind, and if there are few jobs now that ought to upgrade for young people. Since we are landowners we are considering spending our summers in Alamosa & traveling back to our home in Ky for a milder winter. I know Alamosa has a wonderful growth potential but I am Read More
