What BestPlaces Users Say about Longmont

Longmont, Colorado is a small city located in Boulder County, about an hour's drive from Denver. With a population of just over 90,000, it offers a peaceful and suburban atmosphere while still being close to the amenities of a larger city. In order to get a better understanding of what it's like to live in Longmont, I searched through user reviews on BestPlaces.net. Here is a summary of what multiple reviewers had to say about living in Longmont.

According to user "Bryan," who has lived in Longmont for over a decade, the city has a "strong sense of community" and "great schools." Another reviewer, "Melissa," praises Longmont for its "family-friendly" environment and "beautiful parks and trails." These positive comments are echoed by "Mike," who particularly enjoys the "small-town feel" of the city and the fact that "everyone knows everyone." However, not all reviews are glowing. User "Jennifer" mentions that the cost of living in Longmont has been on the rise, making it "difficult for young families" to afford living there. Despite this, Jennifer still notes that the city has "great outdoor activities" and a "friendly atmosphere." Overall, it seems that Longmont offers a close-knit community and plenty of outdoor recreation options, but the increasing cost of living may be a concern for some residents.

retiring to CO - 1/10/2010
My husband and I love CO and have traveled to most parts of the state. We are looking to retire to CO in the next few years, and would appreciate any feedback about the towns of Longmont, Loveland, and Castle Rock. Specifically, is one town better than another for very active, liberal-minded Read More

Nice family environment - 9/24/2009
I grew up in Longmont and spent the majority of my childhood and teen years there. It's a nice place to raise a family being a friendly small town and not too expensive to live in. The schools are good with the exceptions being some of the high schools. The crime rate is low and it's a safe atmosphere. It's grown a lot since I lived there and you'll probably still have to commute elsewhere to find a decent job, but the town is bigger every time I visit. The population is somewhat diverse with mostly a Latino and White population and most people are middle class. Unfortunately though, Longmont itself has few attractions and there's not much to do which can be a problem. There's a small mall, a mediocre movie theater and a couple community events going on through out the year... Luckily Boulder is only 10-15 minutes away, Denver is about 40 minutes away, and the mountains are easily accessible... But especially for the younger crowd like myself when I was living there, boredom was a Read More

Something for everyone. - 4/30/2009
I have lived in Longmont for several years and while I am an inside man, my coworkers are always filling my head with stories of walking trails, mountain hikes, rock climbing, mountain biking, water and snow skiing, fishing in streams and rivers, camping, and great vistas everywhere. I must say that cruising around on my motorcycle on an autumn afternoon is absolutly Read More

Cost of living - 6/24/2007
I lived in Longmont for 30 years, and was glad to be able to move. Longmont is a town where you are either very prosperous, or you are very poor. There is no in the middle. The crime rate stinks, the schools really need an overhaul, and the welfare system needs a makeover. I do have to admit, the Ciry of Longmont does work hard at maintaining a clean, homey, comfortable town, although, appearance is not Read More

Great place to live - 6/21/2007
My husband and I moved to Longmont from South Africa. It is a great place to live! The outdoor lifestyle is fantastic with the Rockies barely 13 miles away and many trails and parks in and around the city. Denver is an easy 40 mins away and Boulder is also within easy reach. It is quiet compared to Boulder - and cheaper - but all Boulder's attractions are close by. It is an affluent community with very nice neighbourhoods and the people are friendly, intelligent and well educated by and Read More

High Cost of Living - 12/26/2006
Longmont is a great town if you were able to buy property several years back and don't want to leave. Right now (12/06) it is difficult to sell real estate - seems like the whole town is for sale. Personally, someday I'd like to move someplace where it is cheaper to live. If you like outdoor activities, especially winter activities, this is the place for you. However, the area does not have lakes and rivers like the midwest. Longmont is a married w/children town, so singles don't fare too well. But the crime is low, and having Boulder and Denver nearby is a Read More
