Excellent family oriented town - 1/29/2021
I've lived here for 10 years, my husband has lived here for 20+. Beautiful New England town minutes from everything my family needs. It's also about 20 minutes from New Haven although I personally don't have much use for this city. The school system is well rated and very responsive to special needs children, they even paid for my special needs step-son's tuition at Chapel Haven, which he attended his last two years of high school. The historic town Green is beautiful especially during the holiday season. Various events are held on the Green primarily during the warm months. And NO, there are NOT bad kids hanging around the green. Never saw anything like that. The town is very family friendly with lots of fee-based sports and activities available through the Parks & Recreation. By and large the fees are modest. There are hiking trails and a lovely little shoreline beach with a kids playground called Jacob's Beach. There's a state park the next town over in Madison whose Read More

Best Places to Live - 6/11/2017
Beautiful historic town on the CT Shoreline. Incredible community, excellent schools, and every amenity you can think of right at your fingertips. The downtown area, the historic Guilford Green is the center of it all. An eclectic mix of old and new shops, restaurants, pubs, coffee bars, markets, hardware store-- There is something for everyone. Family friendly and a place where everybody knows your name, and your dog too. Unless of course you prefer to keep a low profile. In which case that is also respected and honored. Beautiful town beaches for residents. Old money keeps the atmosphere upscale but accessible to all and not pretentious. We're a bit preppy, but we're a coastal town 90 minutes from NYC. I think that's to be expected. We also have a vibrant artist community. Read More

Nice Place to Live - 8/18/2014
Guilford is great, with a few exceptions. Commuting is nightmare. Don't let your kids hang around 'the green' (town square) because its full of bad kids. Winters are hard and older homes are very poorly insulated - so you spend a fortune on heating oil. Homes are overpriced. Other than that its nice quiet country living with good Read More

Great quality of life - 11/9/2007
Guilford is small enough that there is a strong sense of community. It is a friendly town. It is possible to put down roots and have a real sense of belonging. At the same time there is a cosmopolitan atmosphere of tolerance and acceptance. It does not have the narrowness that exists in many small towns. As with any town, there are negatives and problems, but on balance this is a fine place to Read More
