I Cannot Wait To Rid Myself of This Place - 10/4/2017
I'm ready to get away from this whole state, once and for all! There are no real jobs here. The cost of living is getting entirely too high, as well as the crime. Granted, it's bad where ever you go, but Wilmington, DE has made #1 on the high crime list. There was a time where if you told someone from another state that you were from Delaware, their response was, "Where's is Delaware?" Now when I get calls from my friends who live in other states, they always check on me to see if I'm ok, because Delaware is the highlight, and not in a good way. The only thing that's keeping me here right now is my 83-year old mother I am a caregiver to. My mom is in pretty good health to be her age, and I try to convince her in moving with me to another state. But when the elderly get stuck in their ways, that's just what it is. I'm just praying that God helps me move her stubbornness to a different state sometime Read More

So far I'm impressed with Wilmington - 6/1/2016
When we sold our house in the burbs and downsized to a condo in Wilmington all our friends thought we were nuts. What about the crime? Well, we've been here for a year and we couldn't be more pleased.

We enjoy riding our bikes in the Brandywine Park or to the Riverwalk, and we've seen about six shows at the World Cafe Live and the Grand Opera House. Trolly Square offers plenty of great bars and restaurants and the Art museum is very nice.

I can honestly say I've never had a bad encounter with anyone in Wilmington and I haven't been victim to a crime. I couldn't say that about my former suburban life.

Wilmington Delaware is the worst - 4/12/2016
The politicians in Delaware have NO idea what they are doing. They are there just to get a paycheck. The crime is through the roof in the city of Wilmington. There is too much section 8 and no one manages it. The police are only concerned with locking people up and not keeping the peace. There are no laws in place to protect citizens or to even keep their own statues from being enforced. No misdemeanor crimes are in enforced in the city, Read More

The Real Truth - 1/11/2014
Wilmington proper is NOT a good place for anyone to live. It is crime ridden with a very detached city government. The housing in Wilmington is very low priced and for a reason, there is crime and poverty everywhere; you can't avoid it. You may find job opportunities here if you are educated professional as there is the Dupont Company, AstraZeneca and many banks, but be aware that the quality of life is just not what you would get in other areas. Nearby suburbs such as Chadds Ford, PA are nice and if you want true Urban life, Wilmington is on 25 miles from Philadelphia. Both of these places are on the north side of wilmington. I would not reccommend moving here for anyone unless you have an outstanding opportunity that you cant pass up like a scholarship or extrememly high paying job. Read More

I Find Their Scores Widely Untrue - 4/16/2013
First of all, the fact that it lists Wilmington as more expensive than Austin is completely untrue. Austin was voted #21 in most expensive cities to live 3 years ago and I would be willing to bet it's probably at #15 now. Wilmington is cheap and definitely much cheaper than Austin. This survey even lists Wilmington utilities as higher than LA, and Austin's as much lower than LA. Austin utilities are much higher than LA, surprisingly. And in Wilmington you can find a better apartment for $300-500 cheaper. You would also pay probably $100,000-300,000 less for a house, on average, of better quality. Also, Wilmington is beautiful and close to a lot of major cities, where, Austin is close to Dallas and Houston, and why would anyone want to go there, other than Read More

Living in the Heart of the City! - 3/24/2010
I have lived side by side with office buildings for the past 3+ years, and I love it. I love the convenience of walking 2 blocks to work, coming home for lunch, saving money for gas and parking and the reduced stress on my life. From my location, I am equal distance to a number of more bucolic recreational spots which I journey to whenever I have free time. It's Read More

I live in apartments near the PA border....very convenient location to places ike Target, Best Buy, Walmart, etc......the rent for a 1 BR in a decent safe place is at least going to run 800/month if not more....No sales tax makes it a nice place to shop but the general feel of the area is rather boring and Read More
