It’s Okay. Just Not For Me. - 6/14/2023
I moved from a small town in Ohio around four years ago, I was 24 years old. Now, at 28, my outlook about living here has changed. I have came to the conclusion, that, this place (Jacksonville) is not for me. Looking forward to selling my house and leaving someday.

Jacksonville has some amazing things about its many attractions, anywhere from hiking trails, beaches, shopping centers, etc. Although, Jacksonville (even in the outskirts where I live) suffers from the typical Florida issues, it’s WAY TOO CROWDED. There are way too many people here. Now, in all fairness, traffic is not as bad as other large cities around the US or other towns in Florida. Although, it still sucks. People here cannot drive worth a sh*t. Always a Nissan Altima that’s going 95 mph everywhere, racing to every red light for no reason. It’s the city life, and in my opinion, cities suck. Even though, I work from home and live in the outskirts of town, going out into streets anytime from 7am to 7pm is Read More

Love/hate relationship with Jax - 8/29/2022
I’ve lived in Jacksonville for 12+ years(but visited on and off much longer). There’s things I love and things I hate and just like any place there are pros and cons. Pros: comfortable living expenses, St. Augustine close by, beaches, dog friendly, plenty of shopping/food options. Cons: very very rainy for a good portion of the year, public education (even at “A”) schools is subpar, unless you live at the beaches or riverside area not a walkable city (between city layout, heat, drivers etc), so need to drive everywhere, drinking water quality isn’t the best. I think at the end of the day, no one place is perfect. Considering moving but housing market is a mess everywhere. Read More

Any thoughts on the Southside area - 8/15/2022
We have been investigating Jax for a while. It looks like the Southside, Baymeadows and the further East you get is great. Any thoughts on moving to those areas, pretty safe? We know that pictures online can be deceiving, but we have seen many beautiful areas over there. Thank you for your Read More

Don't do it - 3/10/2022
A huge portion of Jax is a high-crime, unkempt, litter of concrete blocks that has systematically excluded newcomers to the area (look at JSO data). I would never willingly move here again without a substantial career motivation (i.e., a promotion large enough that I could live in the few nice parts of Jax in communities of new people). Read More

Northside Roulette - 3/10/2022
The area near the Budweiser factory on the northside is absolutely awful. Jacksonville has some rough areas, but the people who live here are particularly...particular. If you haven't been here for 30+ years, you are dirt to the majority of neighbors, and they will make it their mission to harass you into leaving. The strip club really sets the mood for the whole area. If deciding to move here, I would only look into the newer areas and avoid old, insular neighborhoods that will cause more trouble than they're Read More

Best city I have ever lived. - 12/22/2021
I have lived in Jacksonville for more than 5 years. Now I am leaving for Northeast for my job but I really loved my time here. It was wonderful. As a part time Uber driver, I have discovered and driven through entire city and that really helped me to understand different parts of city.

To start off, Jacksonville is big and it says it has high crime but it really doesn't feel like it. It's crime is entirely concentrated in the Westside and Northside. Honestly, I have been there many times as a Uber driver but it seems fine. Just run down and dilapidated. But I would not live there, knowing that there are crimes in that area and there is nothing to do there anyways. All the big shopping mall, costco, Sams Club, restaurants are located in South of the St. John's River. Arlington is okay if you want to save some money but really good place to live starts from Southside.

Now best of the city is located in Southside, beach & Suburbs. I have not seen or heard any Read More

Moving to jax? Here is what you need to know - 9/9/2021
I have lived here for 5 years and Jacksonville keeps getting better and better. After living in multiple areas in Jax I have figured it out. Like most large cities there are good areas and bad areas. Jax is a huge massive city land wise. I would say 40% of Jax is low income high, crime, and neglected "Bad" areas. These are near downtown on the Westside, Downtown on the eastside north of stadium, alot of east arlington, near St Nicholas... These areas are lower income or economically disadvantaged. Generally speaking the majority of the entire west side of jacksonville is lower income or lower middle class. Where is the best places to live then? If your family is making near or over 6 figures you would enjoy buying in a middle to upper middle class area you should consider Bartram, Communities in St Johns County, Mandarin, The Beaches Jax Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, Ponte vedra Beach, Generally anything East of 295 beltway toward the beach.

I heard it was bad, I had no idea what bad was - 7/24/2021
Just horrible, sure it starts off hopeful, then you see the darkness! Unless you know people, unless you're financially successful, not a place for single parents, judgemental, shallow, assuming, lots of poverty, homelessness, they'll divide you up, rich and conservative, poor and.... they just do NOT care!!!! No "southern hospitality" anywhere, everyone seems to live in fear, no one talks to each other, unfriendly, shady, people ALL over! If you want Florida, head south! Read More

Come here if you want to die inside - 1/1/2021
Jacksonville elite seem to like killing the things that make it interesting. From city council, influential investors, to the mayor, Jacksonville just seems to lack the vision and momentum to keep the good people around and the great projects going. So many projects have failed because, among many factors, of a lack of "mojo" - as one mustachioed influencer said of his fellow deep-pocketed people.

If it wasn't for the Avondale-Riverside area, this place would not be worth living in. Yes, you get decent weather for 6 months and a cheaper cost of living, but 90% of the city looks like Anywhere USA. Gas stations, fast food, and chain stores litter the majority of the city. Couple that with a depressing lack of culture, sloppy academics, and a continual grasping for "finding our city's DNA" and you have Jacksonville. The largest city with the smallest mind.

RUN AWAY - 10/14/2019
WARNING!!! Parents of children that are black and brown please be advised your child will be treated, disciplined and introduced to an prejudice society with this school. Staff presents themselves as Christian based but are very vindictive if you disagree with their outlook. Staff views passionate parents as renegades for having opinions. Staff will take every opportunity to weaponize innocent child fun. Staff is reluctant to pursue alternative practices and will only blame your child. Staff discourages any parent involvement with teachers. Overall I would say this is a poor school because of the structure. No leadership and staff is weak from top to bottom. I wouldn’t recommend ANY parents Read More
