Orlando, Florida is a popular tourist destination known for its theme parks and warm climate. However, many people also call this city their home. With a population of over 2.5 million, Orlando offers a diverse community and a plethora of job opportunities. However, like any city, it also has its own set of drawbacks such as high humidity and traffic congestion.

Orlando, crime taking all the fun out of the City - 2/14/2010
Orlando has one of the highest crime rates in the country, and getting worst.
Yes, the warm climate invites the good and the bad. Violent crime, rape, robberies, and the lattest "home invasions" are destroying this city. The police can't keep up. We moved away, and it is refreshing to not have crime as the main focus on the nightly news. Do your research, if quality of schools & crime are an important factors to you. Realtors "can't" discuss crime areas or high crime nighboorhoods, it is against the law for them to steer you away, so talk to alot of people, and get the information from local sources, police Dept. etc. There are better areas, well worth the drive to live in the safer Read More

It's HOT HOT HOT! - 1/16/2010
For me, climate is a big factor when it comes to where I live. I hate Orlando (climate not being the only factor) with a passion. It's so muggy and hot in the summer you practically have to swim through the air. During the winter it's still hot but just really dry. There is no such thing as seasonal change in Read More

Orlando: Surprisingly Livable - 11/12/2009
We moved to Orlando from LA and Atlanta in 2002 for my job - it was just supposed to be for a couple of years but now we are thinking about making this our permanent home base into retirement. We have found lots of good friends and cultural opportunities for our hobbies in music and art. We live far from the theme parks and endless stip malls surrounding them. Our neighborhood is one of many that is old, charming, full of wildlife and lush with trees. The median age is younger here than in most parts of Florida. The summers are long and hot but there are still more nice days than not. The airport goes everywhere, the medical facilities are plentiful and we can't really find to omuch to complain Read More

It all depends - 10/3/2009
It all depends on where you live in Orlando. Orlando has a lot to do no matter if you are single, or married with children. That's the positive. The negative for me is how spread out everything is. Orlando is definitely built on a gas economy. If Gas prices, toll roads, lack of good transit dont bother you, you will be okay with living here.

Safety is a major concern too. Crime here is on a sharp rise. The lack of jobs does not help either.

But depending on where you live, none of this is a concern. Dr. Phillips, Winter Park, Lake Nona, and Lake Eola are the places I recommend. If you are of latin decent, I recommend the south side or Orlando where the hispanic population is near Read More

I have 2 issues with public education in Orange County Florida
1st is that the students are rather transient. Many kids come into the schools for less than a year. The turn-over in the classrooms is tragic. In my experience it was nearly 50% per year. This is because many of the parents are only in-state temporarily. My guess is that this problem is more prevalent in the south side though I lived near Waterford Lakes for 5 years. Private schools are much better. We sent our kids to Page Private School which was ok. The problem with private schools is none of the kids in the neighborhood go to school with your children and to arrange playtime you end up driving all over the region. But even if you send the kids to public schools all your children's friends in the neighborhood will be gone in a couple of years anyway. Everybody moves in this town.

My 2nd issue is that the schools are county-wide. The school board is constantly rezoning the areas covered by Read More
