Orlando living - 11/27/2005
Living in Orlando is not "living the good life". Crime is much higher than reported and the schools are pathetic in their ability to educate. They spend so much money on ESL classes that the honor's students and the disabled student's are left out in the cold. It is difficult to find a job unless you are "bi-lingual (English and Spanish). Driving is difficult with little or no enforcement of traffic violators. People come from all over the world to live here and expect that they can drive as they do where they came from, live as they do where they came from and expect everyone to accept their ways instead of them adapting to the American way. The quality of life here is sinking into the swamps from which Florida was

Living In Central Florida - 10/16/2005
The cost of living is getting way out of hand these days. On average a two bedroom apartment will cost you from $750 (in a bad neighborhood) to $1100 in a better area.
The law enforcement is great here but under paid and over worked. I feel safe in most parts of twon BUT I am always careful and there are a lot of areas I just will not even go into.
The school zoning has much to be improved. you MUST be very careful when renting or buying a home to check the school zones. Just because you are closer to a school does not mean that will be the school you are zoned for. We are zoned for a school over 10 miles from my home and have to drive past three schools to get to it! AND it is a D school where as the other three are A schools.
The housing costs are out ragiouse too. You can not find a home any where in Orange county for under $200,000 ! And even driving many miles out from Orlando it is still over priced.
My suggestion would be to look at Alachua County.

living in central florida - 10/12/2005
central Florida is over populatied, with lousy law enforcement.
Jobs are plentyful, but don't expect to make a great living here.
With a Masters degree, you can make as a sub teacher, a wopping $11.49 per hour.
The cost of living isn't what it is cracked up to be, either. Automobile insurance,
being a no fault state, is to dam expensive.
It's like the old saying, to make a small fortune in Florida, start out with a LARGE one.

Education - 10/11/2005
The education system here is not that good. It is geared on the FCAT exam. Schools are all about getting the highest grade overall, so they can receive more funds. It is not about what the individual student has learned or where they work. My kids have done well on these exams. But it is not fair to those kids would are stuck in four year straight F schools. If you move down here be prepared to get your child in private school or home

Housing in Orlando is over priced - 9/5/2005
Housing cost are becoming outrageous!!!! Seriously, you cannot find anything decent under $250,000. The home I purchased in 1998 for $76,000 is not selling for more than $190,000!!! Its only 1136 sq. ft, 3/2 with a one car garage, in a not so great neighborhood. The problem is the salaries are not increasing. Disney is the largest employer with Orange County Public Schools running a close second. How are people making $7.25 an hour at Disney or $32,000 (starting salary) being a teacher supposed to afford a home. Someone needs to reevaluate what this site says about median or average home prices in and around Orlando. Even if you travel 20 - 30 miles away from the city into the rural areas, houses are cheaper, but still close to $200,000. The only upside is that its a sellers market, and if you do want to sell, you can make a serious

Education and Housing in Orlando - 8/30/2005
Anyone considering a move to Orlando please heed my warning. This city has one of the worst education systems in the country. The private school system is your best option here which is not much better than public school, but still better. I have lived here for almost 15 years. I started my education in Boston, MA. then my family moved here when I entered the 6th grade. The work I had completed in Boston was not even being considered here in Orlando. I was so far ahead of my peers that it was ridiculous. I am now a mother and my daughter has some how managed to make it to 1st grade here where she has not even begun to learn verb usage or Nouns. I moved to a suburb right outside of Atlanta, GA for one month and my daughter went to Kindergarten there. She learned to spell, read and usage of verbs, nouns and adjectives. When we returned to Orlando I was informed that they would not learn this information in Kindergarten but that she MAY learn Nouns and Verbs in 1st grade. I was
