What BestPlaces Users Say about St. Augustine
St. Augustine, located in Florida, is known for its beautiful beaches, historic landmarks, and charming downtown area. This popular tourist destination also serves as a permanent home for many individuals and families. With such a diverse community, there are bound to be varying opinions on what it's like to live in St. Augustine. After browsing through numerous user reviews on BestPlaces.net, it is evident that this city has a lot to offer, but also has its own set of drawbacks. Here are a few excerpts from different reviewers that provide a glimpse into the reality of living in St. Augustine.
1. "We moved to St. Augustine two years ago and have absolutely fallen in love with this town. The beaches, the history, the people - it's all amazing. We've made so many friends and feel like we truly belong here." - Sarah P.
2. "I've lived in St. Augustine for over a decade now and have seen it change drastically. While it's still a charming and beautiful city, it has become overrun by tourists and has lost some of its small-town feel. The traffic can be unbearable and the cost of living has skyrocketed. It's not the same place I fell in love with years ago." - John D.
3. "St. Augustine is the perfect mix of laid-back beach town and historic city. There's always something to do, whether it's going to the beach, exploring the old forts, or trying out a new restaurant. The only downside is the heat and humidity during the summer, but that's to be expected in Florida." - Lily M.
4. "I had high hopes for St. Augustine, but unfortunately, it fell short. The job market is limited and the wages are low. It's also not the most welcoming place for diversity. As a person of color, I have faced discrimination and have not felt fully accepted by the community." - Marcus B.
Overall, it seems like living in St. Augustine has its perks, such as its picturesque setting and rich history, but also has its challenges, including high tourism, traffic, and limited job opportunities. As with any place, it's important to weigh the pros and cons before making the decision to relocate.

Living in Northeast Florida - 7/5/2010
We have lived here for about two years now since I was hired by a firm in Jacksonville, which has unfortunately now closed its doors due to the economy. The recession hit pretty hard down here and the area has been slow to recover. Thankfully we were able to sell the house we left behind, and have not yet bought a home here, so we hope to ride it out renting until things improve. We like the climate (about what you'd expect: pretty much three seasons with some occasional winter frost and not as hot and muggy in the summer as further south). It's great having the beach nearby, and old St. Augustine is full of charm and attractions, albeit somewhat touristy. Jacksonville on the other hand, where my job was, is a pretty unappealing place with many abandoned buildings and empty storefronts downtown. They're barely holding on to the Jaguars, and the various festivals etc. try to inject some live into the urban core, but compared to other cities we've lived in, it basically doesn't compare.

art walk - 10/19/2009
We recently moved to St. Augustine and are residing close to Flagler College. Each month on the first Friday there is an Art Walk from 5-9pm where the local galleries stay open for the public to view the gallery. Some places serve wine and some feature an artist from the local are. Very

Things to do - 5/14/2009
There's a diversity of activities and events year round. If you golf, fish, swim, kayak, sail, powerboat, beachcomb or sport shoot it's all here. The charming old city (the oldest in the nation) is an attractive lure. There are many theatre and musical events. Plus all kinds of fairs, shows and carnivals.
Don't miss the many good restaurant, many with entertainment, near and around town. Nearness to Jacksonville provides big city shopping and a number of professional sporting

Why does such a small town have so many homeless? - 6/12/2008
St. Augustine is a wonderful place to live on many counts--it's natural beauty and historic preservation, among others--however, why does a city with a population of approximately 20,000 have so many homeless on its streets? Granted, the economy is bad all over these days, but I've not seen this in other comparably-sized cities in

St. Aug - 1/6/2008
St. Augustines provides the best of several little luxuries. It provides a safe, luxurious, beautiful beach with drive-on access, without tourism being too heavy, a beautiful downtown historical district with tons of local shops, boutiques, and restaurants. Flagler College is beautiful and jam-packed with history. A cute, slower-paced small beach town that is livened up every year in the

Possibly moving and need your advice - 4/10/2007
I am currently living in the Daytona Beach surrounding area and am thinking about moving to a nicer area. However my husband and I are not in the mid to upper end of the salary chart. So far the comments I have seen have been about the golf courses and living on the beach and living in a nice expensive subdivision.
My real question is for people who have to work to make a living, is this such a place without having to deal with a lot of crime, loud parties constantly, loud booming stereos? Is looking for a 600/month one bedroom apt/flat out of the question in this area?
What are the utilites/food/gas like? Does this town mostly cater to all the tourists? Is this a local resident/family friendly area?
Please let me know. I want a good, clean safe QUIET place to live that is affordable? or am I just asking to much for Florida.

Uncontrolled growth without accompanying services - 10/3/2006
We love our home in St. Augustine, but the "county planners" are not doing their job! They seem to be too caught up in the economic boom that accompanies rapid growth. We hope someone will get a grip on this problem. It's HOT, HOT, HOT from June through September. Just when you think you will get a break from the heat, it's back again. One of us likes the heat and the other really dislikes it, and is always looking for ways to escape it. The winters are beautiful. Hard to garden in summer with the heat. Last month we had a water mocassin and a pygmy rattler in the yard - one right in the garden, which is discouraging. There is a wide variety of cultural events - from opera to folk singing and rock bands. First Friday of the month art walks are
